Tiny Tim on the guard frequency 121.5? by
Jim Logajan
Came across a reference in a book written 50 years ago to calling "Tiny
Tim" on 121.5 for assistance from radar stations and direction finding
stations for help in getting on-lost.
Anyone ever heard of that before? When did this usage go away? Anyone
willing to admit to being old enough to...

New twist "on pre-flight inspections." by
Ricky
Reading the "On pre-flight inspections" thread got me thinking about a
new twist on the subject.
You did a pre-flight but experienced a problem in flight. The problem
would not have (or probably wouldn't have) surfaced if you woulda,
shoulda, coulda done a bit more thorough of a pre-flight.
Me?
I...

Jesse James' P-51 flight by
Jon Woellhaf
In a recent episode of his new series "Jesse James is a Dead Man," Jesse
pilots a P-51 around the pylon course at Reno. I was amazed at how well he
did after only a few hours training. I'm quite certain I couldn't have done
nearly as well.
Assuming Jesse really was actually doing the flying, of...

OT-San Antonio Lodging by
Terry
As a member of this newsgroup for many years, I thought this would be a
good place to get advice from my fellow pilots.
My son is leaving for Afghanistan on the 21st of Aug from Camp Bullis. I
am looking for a place to stay from Aug 20th - 22nd. Would like it to be
near the "River Walk" area so...

On pre-flight inspections by
D Ramapriya
Has any of you has ever discovered something during the pre-flight
inspection that necessitated a significant deferrment of your flight
plan or a cancelation altogether? Just curious, that's all.
Thanks,

Wings vs. BFR by
Dallas
I always thought taking a wings seminar was a simple way to get your BFR
out of the way. After a little Internet research it seems they require
three hours of dual flight instruction to qualify as a BFR. Is that
correct?
It would be much easier and cheaper to just do the BFR.. I don't see...

Well that was an experience! by
es330td
I got to fly right seat in a 58 Baron yesterday. The most plane I had
been in previous to that was a Bonanza. It is the completely wrong
plane for my kind of flying but was an incredible ride.

GPS and ground speed by
D Ramapriya
Since
(a) Ground Speed can be determined by GPS,
(b) the relationship between the aircraft's attitude and the angle of
attack should theoretically be unvarying and
(c) the attitude indicator is a gyroscopic instrument,
is it possible to assume with any correctness that during cruise, an
aircraft...

Off-topic Q by

Was wondering about this term "near-miss"... shouldn't a near-miss
actually be a collision and a near-collision a miss? :)

Anybody have VB skills for aviation weather? by
CaptainCraig
Hi folks!
Just wondering if anyone thinks it is possible to retrieve enroute
winds and metar/taf information using Visual Basic?
I have a MS Excel flight planner that I think would do well if I could
get current weather into.
Writing from Canada, by the way.

To go around or not go around? - Video by
Kai Rode
It would be interesting to hear what others would have done on the
first landing.
Go around. It's almost always the safer decision. But maybe I'm influenced
by a similar situation I experienced the day before yesterday...crosswind
landing on RWY31 with winds 24013G23KT. I used full flaps...
