Paul Hirose
The Edwards AFB air show on October 25 and 26 will feature attempts to
set numerous world speed records with a B-1B. The speed runs will
include low altitude passes over the show area. A release of 84 inert
500-lb bombs in view of the crowd will conclude the B-1 flying on...

There's a vote going now on creating a newsgroup about the metric
system:

Bomb hits tailplane on release by
Paul Housley
Perhaps a bit of a random question for this newsgroup.
A while ago, I saw video footage of a bomb being released from a
fighter-bomber under test conditions. It was on an aviation
documentary. The high speed camera then shows it climb up and destroy
the tailplane. I don't think they quite got...

A shameless plug for the named book, which was recently reviewed in Air

Just the FACs please by
Pauli G
I have a question about FAC operations in Vietnam. When a USMC got a
radio call for help, could he vector in aircraft from all services, or
were only USN/USMC aircraft at his disposal? Also, did Army ground
troops have the capability to contact any FAC in the sky regardless of
what service was...

Tandem Mi-26? by

With all the interest in tactical VTOL and airmobility, has anyone
seriously considered a Chinook type tandem using Mi-26 rotor/engine
combos (or similar scale western versions) at each end?
Should be able to achieve at least 40,000 kg lift over 350-400km. With
a large cabin, medium armour...

Vandalism, security measure, or something else? by
Peter Duniho
I was in Tucson over the holidays. At the AFB there (Davis-Monthan), they
keep a lot of aircraft in storage. At the south end of the base, several
recent arrivals were parked near the fence. For some reason, the "U.S. Air
Force" markings on the side had been torn up.
Does anyone have any idea...
