Cross Country the main focus of soaring? by
mat Redsell
I have been very concerned about our club, which discourages cross country
in club gliders. My thought is that purpose of soaring is cross country and
if one just concentrates on flying above the airport then ones member ship
tends to end when you have your license.
We have many airports withing a...

CAI 302 repair advise needed by
Jamey Jacobs
The adjustment knob on the lower left of my 302 came loose today. It
was still attached to the metal rod that goes into the instrument and
it appears that a set-screw came loose from the far end of the rod.
Has anyone had this same failure?
Does you know if I can easily repair this or does it...

Collision avoidance device by
Jim Hendrix
SureCheck Aviation now offers a low cost proximity detection device that's
suitable for glider use. It receives transponder transmissions and
indicates nearness of the source. This unit is the size of a credit card
and operates on batteries. Velcro it above your panel and you're done.

Soaring Sumo Wrestler by
John0714
I am not really a sumo wrestler, just about the size of one. But I did soar
once in a glider when I was a little smaller. I plan to be in California a
while in Dec. and Jan. Is there any good place a 350 lbs. guy could glide?

Beginning October 20, 2004, all pilots wishing to recieve instruction
- including a BFR, must show proff of US citizenship to the
instructor. Very scary.
I have heard from a reliable source that if a CFI allows a passenger
to touch the...

Sport Pilot Transition Now Available by
Mark James Boyd
http://www.aopa.org/sportpilot/
It seems the FAA has decided that using the
8710-1 is OK to use as documents "acceptable to the administrator"
for transitioning Sport Pilots. So if you have
airplane ASEL pilots or CFIs who want to transition to
gliders in a 2-33 or SZD 50-3, it appears this is...

Becker Radio battery by

Hi Guys,
I seem to remember that there was some discussion here a few years ago
about problems with the internal battery in Becker VHF Transceivers
going flat, and the radio subsequently losing stored frequencies and
other information.
A friend of mine has a Becker radio, which is starting to show...

First a disclaimer: I understand the security issues involved
in the following and would not encourage anyone to try this
at home, but I am interested in the theoretical side of it.
Imagine you get things wrong and are caught out low on final,

What did an LS-1f sell for in the U.S. in 1976? by
Mark Zivley
Although I no longer own the glider, I was talking to someone about the
nature of sailplanes holding their value in general. Just curious if
anyone knows what a new LS-1f would have cost a U.S. customer around 1976?
