brainstorming: homebuilt aerobatic design by
Shin Gou
Hi guys,
I am thinking a homebuilt aerobatic plane and am asking for your
opinion on my idea:
The fuselage is of course 4130 steel tubes welded frame.
The point is the wing: I am thinking about using exact the same
Long-EZ's wings technique, i.e. solid form core+fiber glass cover. Why?
Because I...

Brake bleeder device by
Steve S.
Folks--
This is really something I should know and I am a little embarrassed
that I don't. The topic is brake bleeders. Not the fill fitting on
the bottom of the calipers, but rather the device one uses to push
brake fluid uphill into the system (I fill from the bottom up, which
works very well...

brake bleeding by

Marchetti SA1
yr unknown.
Can anyone tell me if one has to vacumn at the wheel cylinders and apply
fluid at the brake pedal cylinder?
Or is it best (easier) to vacumn at the brake pedal and insert fluid at the
wheel?
This is for a friend and he has no books for his plane.
Also, what should the...

brake fittings by
[email protected]
Can I connect aluminum AN fittings to steel hose ends? I am
planning on using Earl's Speed-Flex hose with Speed-Seal hose ends on
my Avid Mark IV with Grove gear and Matco brakes. Will there be
corrosion
from the mating of dissimilar metals? Thanks.

brake reservoir installation by
[email protected]
I want to use the ACS Model A-600 brake reservoir. It's the kind that
screws directly into the master cylinder port. Because of conflict
with the pedals I'll have to put one on the right master cylinder on
the pilot's side and one on the left master cylinder on the copilot's
side. Will this...

Brass or copper sheet? by
Scott
For one of my different hobbies...does anybody have a good source for
brass or copper sheet? I'm thinking something around 0.025" or 0.032"
and two pieces that are about 30" X 30" or so each. Would I need to
take out a second mortgage to obtain pieces like that?

Break-in Period for 0200A Continental Engine? by
Larry
I just had my cylinders overhauled and now have 2 hrs on the engine. I
have been getting some mixed information about the proper break-in
procedure. Run "rich" or "lean"?. I am running 40 weight mineral oil.
Some say it is important to run hard and lean to prevent the walls from
glazing others say...

Breather Tube Size For IO-540? by
Scott Rodriguez
Installing a 540 in a Skybolt and running the obligatory breather tube along
the length of the fuselage and out the rear in the usual manner.
Was planning on a 3/4" diameter tube, is that big enough?
TIA, Scott

20 lb, 23hp 400cc 5 clyinder radial.
This engine has got to be getting close to bridging the gap between
ultralight and RC (understanding it is expensive for an ultralight)
What could you do with this? twin engine PBY ultralight? (twin...

BSFC vs gas mileage, 2 stroke vs 4 stroke by
Jay
I've been under the impression that 4 stroke engines get better gas
mileage in aircraft due to their higher BSFC numbers. But I've
recently realized that since the 4 stroke engines are so much heavier
than a same horse powered 2 stroke you end up having to design a
larger aircraft (and engine) to...

Bubble canopy / solar heating by
Steve S.
I'm looking for input regarding the amount of air to blast through a
cockpit to offset the effects of solar heating under a large canopy.
This is one of those situations in which I have two little devils
sitting on my shoulders. One (an engineer, natch) is telling me that
three NACA's of a...

Bubble canopy / solar heating -- addendum by
Peter Dohm
I was reminded, in an off line conversation, that UV intensity increases
with altitude. Therefore, the skin cancer risk that I always regard as
exagerated at sea level is much more worthy of concern--and therefore of
prevention--at altitude. The higher you go the more important it gets,...

Bubble injection behind the step on seaplanes by
Adam Aulick
I have been reading up on seaplanes (Seaplane Operations, by Cesare Baj
and Dale DeRemer) and one frequently repeated fact is that it is very
hard to get a seaplane up on the step on glassy water, because the lack
of bubbles under the float/hull causes the heel of the float/hull to
adhere to the...

Bucking bar and vice by
mhorowit
New to riveting here.
Reading on basics show the impact on the manufactured head is
transmitted along the rivet and forces the bucking bar off the
bucktail. It then slams back, causing the rivet shaft to begin to
deform.
Because the bucking bar needs to move, does this mean it can not be
clamped...
