Today I was flying my Twin Comanche PA30 everything was great until after landing. Once I had the wheels on the ground I pulled the power back to idle, about three seconds or so after I pulled the power back the prop feathered and the engine shut down. I let the engine cool down for about 30 min...

The AD that wasn't. by Roger Long
With all the AD's for things with a very low likelihood of occurrence, you really have to wonder why this (from Cessna Pilot's Association) isn't one. It should be and you should check your engine immediately. Many engines, particularly Lycomings, have a pressurized oil passage opening into the...

What do you think about ercoupe by ianf
I am a low time pilot 100 hours who has time on 150's 172 (new and old) and on a warrior. A friend (also low time)and myself want to partner on a plane so we can build time, go on overnight trips without daily minima and just generally improve our flying skills. One day or aim is a float plane or...

How to avoid Aircraft Ad Velorem taxes........... by ArtP
On 25 Aug 2003 04:20:50 GMT, Mike wrote: How can one legally avoid state/county ad velorem taxes on a aircraft. When I owned a Cessna 170, the file clerk said it was worth $80,000, and my tax was $2000/yr. There has to be some way to defeat this ridiculous tax. Move.

beware of "warranty" R&R labor costs by Doug Vetter
Hi all, I recently had a $1700 SigmaTek bootstrap gyro installed in our airplane and figured I'd relate this story. This gyro exhibited excessive precession since the day it was installed....in other words, it was defective. I called my avionics tech and asked him to order a new gyro. No...

EGT Problem by Dennis O'Connor
Two possible causes, Newps... One is a broken wire(s) going to the instrument panel where moving the wire around to work on the lugs causes the broken ends to abrade and make better contact for a while, and then they reoxidize... This is high on my suspicion list since it is the same two wire...

Nose wheel shimmy by JFLEISC
I read an interesting thread where someone pointed out that all shimmy preventitive devices are designed to stop something that has already started, and that wheel balancing may stop a shimmy from ever starting. Makes sense, but my question is; What, if any, is the normal method of balancing...

New owner glitches on the 175B ( Why didn't they see them?) by Justin Case
Welcome to airplane ownership. I strongly suggest you join the type club before turning any blank checks over to your mechanic. What you are seeing may be an easy fix or a common problem that many have seen before. On Tue, 26 Aug 2003 20:17:00 -0400, "Wayne" wrote: ...

Follow up on fuel drains by Mike Noel
The Curtis valve fuel drains from Aircraft Spruce were about $10 each including shipping, they are TSO'ed and come with some kind of sealant at the base of the thread grooves. They also still have 'O' rings, but the manufacturer says to replace the entire valve and not to 'overhaul' the valve. ...

Transponder/Encoder troubleshooting by [email protected]
Hey all. Any avionics advice for troubleshooting my latest gremlin? It's a Narco AR-850 altitude encoder connected vi 1N4007 diodes to a KT-76 transponder and (no diodes) to a KLX-135A VFR GPS/COM. Trouble is, once in awhile the ModeC doesn't work (center says only ModeA). Every once in awhile,...

Overly restrictive business flying requirements. by Wily Wapiti
Hello. I thought I'd bounce these off the group and see what people think. These are the UniRegs at the University of Wyoming for flying your own or rented plane on University business. I feel, as a low-time private pilot that they are overly restrictive, but I thought I'd see what the sage...
