Aluckyguess
I was flying into Van Nuys this morning IFR when ATC told us to look 11:00
and we should be able to see the new Airbus's making its first Flight into
LAX. I took a few pictures.

Accident last Sat night at Cameron Park (O61)?? by
Robert M. Gary
I saw a brief thing on the news Sunday AM about a Beechcraft that
landed with landing gear issues. The images on the news showed
Sheriff's cars on the taxiway with lights flashing. I was busy getting
ready to run down to another airport to do some instructing so I
couldn't watch it. However, I...

Did I miss the Era of GA? by
Google Madness
Twenty years ago I almost got into flying, I'd even taken my Discovery
Flight and was all set to dive in. Then my wife-to-be put the kabosh on it
saying it was too much money.
Now money isn't so much an issue anymore and I'm all set once again to
follow my dream of having my PPL.
But, I've heard...

Once more into the unknown. by
Crash Lander[_1_]
Had another flight yesterday. Had to post-pone it for 2 hours due to fog,
but once it cleared we had a 15kt breeze straight down 35. That meant using
the opposite runway to what I'm used to. Only used it once or twice before.
Did 2 circuits with my instructor, and then 6 on my own, plus 1 go...

Tweaking the throttle on approach by
Mxsmanic
Is it normal to constantly fiddle with the throttle on an approach in a small
plane? I find myself frequently making small adjustments on most approaches
(unless I'm coming absolutely arrow-straight into the runway and there's no
wind). From videos I've seen, this happens in real aircraft, too,...

Problems in a commercial flight by
megaMAX
Hello everybody,
I want to tell you what's happened during a Finnair flight from
Helsinki to Milan, I'm not an expert of flight.
During the entire flight, I noticed that the aircraft was continuosly
rolling to right, and the pilot was correcting every 10-20 seconds the
attitude. I noticed this,...

Canals in Missouri? by
Jay Honeck
On our flight from Memphis, TN to Iowa City, IA, today, we were
diverted around the Lindbergh MOA. This took us over the small town of
Kennett, MO, which brought us over a pretty amazing sight.
Just east of the Kennett Airport (KTKX) there is (what looks for all
the world like) a "freeway canal"...

Flying Turtle Restaurant - Mansfield OH by
Eric Bartsch
Does anyone know what happened to the Flying Turtle Restaurant at
Mansfield OH (MFD)? I flew past there a couple of weeks ago and the
ATIS stated that it was closed. At the time, I assumed this was
temporary, but I was thinking of heading there for lunch tomorrow and
I called & found the number was...

Contrails by
Darkwing
Is there a certain speed an aircraft must be going for contrails to form? I
have never seen a 172 with contrails but as a kid I used to go to Road
America with my dad and watch the (then CART Indycars) and in the morning
you could see the contrails off the rear wings, so that tells me it has...

Aviation Podcasts by

I am totally amazed at how many aviation related Podcasts are available for
free on the internet.
Not to mention that there are some really great Video Podcasts out there.
Am I the last one to find this out?
Has anyone else in this group ventured into the world of Podcasts?
It is overwhelming, a...

First Hangar Cookout of the Year by
Jay Honeck
Ah, what is it about burned steaks and cold beer that just tastes SO
good at the hangar? Especially that first nice evening of the
spring, when the sun is finally up late enough to actually see the
grill, and we don't have to huddle around the jet-fuel space heater to
keep warm anymore...
Today...

Garmin 296 by
Newps
I'm going to buy a 296 this week. Is there any reason not to buy a used
unit from these discount houses like JA Air Center? Did Garmin
improve the processor or make any changes that would make a new unit
preferable to a used unit?

In flight recorder by
Lou
Has anyone ever made their own in-flight recorder? I'm curious how
this would be done. I don't think it would be that difficult if you
use a regular cassette in one of those small fire safes. Just
drill a small hole to accomadate the mic wire. But how would you hook
it up to the intercom?
Or would...

Hi Folks,
Here's an interesting phenomenon I observed recently and I was
wondering if anybody else has seen anything like it.
About two weekends ago, I was doing a cross country in actual (IMC)
with one of my Instrument Rating students near Cheyenne, WY. We were
at 11,000ft for a while and the...

A380 Landing in LAX by

Anyone notice what seemed to me to be rather large deflections of the
rudder during landing at LAX the other day? The video is on CNN --
can't provide direct link so go to CNN video site and search for
"Gigantic jet arrives in U.S.".
Was there a significant crosswind that morning? On...
