Owner maintenance screw-ups by
Viperdoc
As a follow on to Jay's previous post, has anyone attempted an "easy" or
"obvious" repair project, only to do something that really screwed up the
job and made it more expensive or time consuming to recover?

Baron issues by
Viperdoc
Well, in three days of flying a long cross country to West Texas from
Wisconsin, my autopilot went nuts in the roll axis- wouldn't capture flight
director or heading bug info, and just tried to do uncommanded turns.
Altitude and pitch worked fine.
Suspected a bad roll servo- could be driver...

The engine is finally back! by
Viperdoc
After sending my Lycoming AEIO-540 to the factory for a mandatory repair it
has finally returned. At Oshkosh this year the people at the Lycoming booth
swore it would take only two weeks, but when the actual paperwork arrived
everything said one month in the shop. It ended up taking a little over...

Winter flying ops by
Viperdoc
It is now a balmy 3 degrees here in Wisconsin, and I was thinking about
trying to find the winter fronts and putting on my Baron.
The question that comes up every year is whether to open the cowl flaps for
start, taxi, and take off, knowing the ambient temperature is so low.
It's hard enough to...

Jen:
It was nice to speak with you, although briefly, yesterday. You seemed a lot
more at peace with yourself and your decision to take classes. I applaud
your efforts to seek personal challenges.
I hope that you have prepared a lavish party and baby shower for your
sister. This is the least that...

Snow over ice by
Viperdoc
I thought about the winch system, but my plane weighs around 5,000lbs.
Pulling on the tail tie down ring might just rip it off. There unfortunately
is no way even four people could push it upslope on our ramp on the ice.
I use a 10HP tug that goes under the nose wheel, and is big enough for a...

Stuck valve versus plugged injector by
Viperdoc
My AEIO 540 equipped plane had a cylinder stop working following a flight
yesterday. It ran fine during the flight, and quit on the taxi back to the
hangar. (Number 3)
It started to run rough, and a mag check showed that the cylinder was cold
on both (six probe EGT and CHT).
The plugs both look...

Cold Starts by
Viperdoc
Is it worth lugging long extension cords to plug in the Tanis heaters for my
Baron if it's going to sit outside at 12 degrees for two to three hours
after a flight?
I have cowl plugs which may help a little, but is it really a problem? The
oil will be well circulated, and the battery is in good...

The Commercial License: Is it a good long-term investment? by
[email protected]
Hello everyone,
Everyone knows that if you put in thousands of dollars for a solid
college education, you'll reap the benefits later on. Is it also true
for the FAA commercial license? If I put in the extra money to get a
commercial license, can recoup that money (and them some) by starting
an...

Evils of crossposting to rec.avionation NGs by
VideoGuy
Please understand, I'm NOT trying to begin/continue any kind of arguement.
This is a serious attempt to gain understanding.
As I've only been lurking around aviation newsgroups for a little more than
a year, I'll readily admit a lack of understanding of the finer points of
R.A.O "netiquette". ...

Announcing WINNER of "Can you help Identify this airport" contest! by

Thanks to all who took the time to look at my "mystery" airport photo.
Seems the only mystery was on my end. It took less than 12 hours from
posting for Paul Sisson of Litchfield Aerobatic Club to send in the
correct answer.
At least it's the correct answer in the opinion of several who...

Can you help identify this airport? by
Video Guy
Hello
My family has an aerial photograph of an airport we need help to identify.
It was taken by my late father-in-law sometime in the 1960's. At least that
's our guess. Could be a little later; and maybe even a bit earlier; we
just aren't sure.
