Landout season has begun by
Tony[_5_]
First flight of the year in my Cherokee. I really really didn't mean to landout but sometimes it just happens. Oh well it was at a friends house although he wasn't home. He is supposed to be taking his first glider lesson tomorrow. I owe Leah Ice Cream. It must be getting close to...

Cover it if 302 needle does not zero at power up. by
MaKoRide
Cover up the face.
The Cambridge 302 vario needle can fail to zero correctly at power up.
The instrument uses a light source and photo sensor to find the zero
position. If bright light overpowers the light source then the needle
can fail to position properly. Sometimes it goes around in circles...

HRRR model now live by

http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2014/20140930_hrrr.html
Walt Rogers has written about using this model in a few posts. I have used the beta version with reasonable success, specifically the mid and high level cloud predictions.
I would like to see better explanations of the fields and to...

Trainer built in Florida? by
GM
Hi all in US-glider land!
I am just curious: what happened to the rebirth of the Polish Kr-03
trainer, which was supposed to be built by a company in Florida?
With the Euro growing stronger and stronger against the US$ and the
aging fleet of 2-33, I thought there would be a good market for this
US...

iPAQ logger problem (no G-record) by
Mike Yankee
Perhaps some knowledgeable person can help me with this. I recently
started using an iPAQ with GPS_LOG WinCE interfaced to a Garmin II.
Before flying with it, I did a test run over the hills in my car; it
logged the trip perfectly and the log included the G-record. I then
flew with it and it...

Which hand do I use on the stick of my Stemme by
kd6veb
Hi Gang
There is another current thread on the Taurus concerning from which
seat does the PIC usually fly and which hand is on the stick. Well the
Stemme poses similar questions. On takeoff from the left seat I use my
left hand on the stick with right hand on the throttle. Landing right
hand on...

Accident Prevention by
Tom[_12_]
Accident Prevention
Flying gliders is dangerous. The Accident Prevention Manual For
Glider Pilots written in 1992 has been an important and effective
tool to train pilots to fly safer. The difficulty is getting pilots
to read the manual. The relatively light sales of this book, and the
fact...

The Air Sailing Sports contest concluded on Saturday July 25. We flew
5 out of six days in great conditions. The rest day was flyable
however with the long flights a rest was needed. Air Sailing is a
great venue for a soaring contest. I have attended for four years now
and conditions have been...

GPS Visualizer update: Auto marker lists + more by
Adam Schneider
A few changes to GPS Visualizer lately which are worth announcing:
* Google Maps: a lot of changes here, although a few are under the hood
where most people won't notice them. The most notable is the ability
to have GPS Visualizer automatically generate a list of waypoints and
display it...
