help me find Sydney's list? by
Dave Butler
A while ago on this newsgroup, Sydney Hoeltzli (I'm pretty sure that's who it
was) posted a list of IFR-GPS tasks that one ought to be able to do before
considering oneself competent in the use of that GPS.
I'd sure like to have that list, as I'm checking myself out on a plane with a
GPS I haven't...

Help understanding Aspen VOR/DME approach by
SimGuy
The plate is here-
http://www.airnav.com/depart?http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0608/05889VDGC.PDF
While trying to fly the approach in the sim I flew to the MAP with
relative ease but had trouble getting low enough to make the runway
without getting too hot. Looking at the plate it seems a drop of...

High Altitude Waypoints by
Dennis Johnson
Greetings,
If I file an IFR flight plan with the equipment suffix of /G, indicating
GPS, can I use a high altitude waypoint on the flight plan even if I'm
flying in the low altitude structure?
For example, flying northwest from Las Vegas, filing from BTY VOR (Beatty)
to DOBNE to BIH VOR...

Hold "as published"? by
John Clonts
Flying to Burnet, Texas (BMQ) the other day:
"Houston Center, 7nz request vectors-to-final Burnet GPS-01, or else request
direct JIBAJ for the GPS-19"
"7nz, you're number three, cleared direct Burnet, expect further clearance
2125"
....
I didn't understand what he was telling me to do once I got...

Hold at VOR for 2v2 by
Doug
So I am in the hold at the BJC VOR for the VOR DME approach to 2v2.
http://www.naco.faa.gov/d-tpp/0405/09041VDA.PDF
At what point do I leave the hold and intercept the 345 radial?
At the VOR? Or at the end of the outbound leg?
Thx

Hold direct entry and speed in Skyhawk by
Terence Wilson
Hello,
A couple of quick questions/calrifications:
1) When executing a direct entry to a hold e.g. for the KAPC LOC Rwy
36L missed:
"...climb 3000' direct SGD VOR & hold"
I have been flying directly to the VOR then, upon watching the to/from

Holding by
___P:Sir
The 1 min timing (or 1½ min above 14.000 feet) - is that in Your opinion
inbound or outbound leg? Doc 8168 says "outbound no wind" - but that might
be a matter of definition, because all pro`s I asked, says Inbound...?

Holding at CHS by
Stuart King
Finally got a real hold...never had one before.
Held for 25min over CHS at 3000ft waiting my turn to do the VOR approach
into JZI...OVC008.9SM
didn't expect it, but it really was no big deal.
They gave plenty of explanation and warning when to expect the approach.
Just interesting, hardly...

Holding Pattern Question by
Dennis Johnson
I'm probably over-thinking holding patterns and have become confused.
When given instructions to hold at a non-published holding pattern, ATC will
specify:
1. The direction from the fix, such as north, north-east, etc.
2. The name of the holding fix.
3. The radial, course, or airway on which...

Holding pattern reporting by
Yossarian
At what point do you report holding to ATC? Upon reaching the holding fix,
or when you are established in the hold and again crossing the fix? For
example, your direction of flight makes a parallel entry appropriate. You
cross the fix and turn outbound. Should you report then or wait till...

Holds for currency requirements by
Paul Tomblin
I recently did 6 approaches to get back current again, but I forgot to
do a hold. My last hold was less than 6 months ago, so I'm still legal
for a few more days. What counts as a hold to fit that vaguely worded
requirement?
- A self-assigned hold while flying solo VFR in VMC?
- A self-assigned...

Holds when PT NA by
David Rind
If an approach has a hold in lieu of a PT, but the chart says
"No PT", is the hold optional, or is it only available with ATC
authorization the way a PT would be in this situation?
I was looking at the ILS 2 approach into EEN, and there is a
segment at 4000' from an IAF at the GDM VOR marked No...

Home air band listening. by
Rich Hare
I'd like to improve my air band listening at home. I'd like to be able
to capture ATC ground transmissions from an airport 15 miles away (DTW)
and ATIS from DTW and YIP (also about 15 miles). I'm in a two story
house in a typical suburban setting on ground about 200' higher than the
airports in...
