When Time Slows Down by
Kyle Boatright
Do you ever experience the sensation that time is slowing down for you?
E.G. Your brain and motor functions are moving at normal speed, but
everything around you has slowed down?
I've had this sensation more than a few times. A couple of times when I was
in auto accidents (not my fault) and could...

Bertie 737 question by
Big John
Bertie
I flew four flightin the 737 over Memorial week.
Each landing started from a down wind and long stablized final VFR.
I did not detect any attitude change or thorttle change after turning
final.
I also DID NOT feel or see any flare and impact with ground was what I

Fighting the high cost of flying by
Jay Honeck[_2_]
GA is dying. In fact, it's already dead at many (perhaps most?) airports
across America. The high price of gas, insurance, aircraft, hangars, fees,
training, plus the unreliability and hassle factors have kept all but the
fanatical (a group in which I proudly include myself) away from...

Pattern departures and altitude by
Mxsmanic
If I'm told "maintain at or below 3500 make left downwind departure" for a VFR
departure, do I climb immediately to 3500 (or my intended altitude) or do I
level off at pattern altitude until I leave the downwind leg of the pattern?

Most fun flying with your clothes on! by
Michelle P
yesterday I finished my latest rating. Commercial Single Engine Sea! It
was a lot of fun. Now I have to get floats for the Maule!
I was actually having fun while training for the rating. That was a change.
Next year? CMES? That will round out the powered rating for me.

World's Ugliest Plane? by
C J Campbell
Wall Street Journal today ran an article on the Boeing Large Cargo Freighter,
the "Dreamlifter." It is one ugly plane. A CFI and student in a Skyhawk were
darn near killed in November when they flew through the monster's wake
turbulence. They were flipped over and lost 1000 feet of altitude and...

Minimum fuel by
Denny
Just a comment... Last weekend I had to move a full load, five seats
and baggage, across three states with multiple stops... This required
a light fuel load to make the W&B work out...
For those who have not seen my postings on fuel before, I am a fanatic
about not ever going into the last hour...

FAA regulates competition by
Robert M. Gary
A Dr friend of mine mentioned that he tried to apply as an AME with the
local FSDO and was told "we already have enough AME's go away". As a
capitalist, that really bothered me. Under what authority does the FAA
regulate the supply of AMEs? Certainly we can all understand that the
FAA must put...

Airshares SR-20 by
Guy Elden Jr.
After last week's great flight down to Atlanta and back to NJ, I've begun to
seriously investigate upgrading "my" aircraft to an SR-20. By "my" I mean
that I currently rent, and for long distance flights meant more for vacation
like the one to Atlanta, I rent a 172SP. I'm very happy with the planes...

Bonehead move today by
Viperdoc
Went to Lone Rock, Wisconsin today for the $100 hamburger , with excellent
VFR conditions, and winds light and variable.
After lunch we saw a 210 taxi to the approach end of runway 27 (clearly
visible from the the far end at the restaurant). Just as he started his
takeoff roll, another guy in a...

Reading back altimeter settings? by
Paul Tomblin
Does anybody have a good handle on when ATC wants you to read back
altimeter settings? On a single IFR flight on Tuesday, I encountered
several controllers who I'd check in with, and they'd give me an altimeter
setting, and that would be it, and 2 (both in Canada, BTW) whom when I
didn't read back...

CAP volunteer? by

Has anyone on this list working with CAP. I'm a CFI and would be
willing to donate some instruction if they were interested and if it
were helpful. Is CAP interested in civilian CFIs or just those with a
military background? What does it mean that some CAP orgs are "Cadet"
and some are "composite"?...

Mt. Saint Helens by

Scientists are now predicting a 70% chance of Mt. Saint Helens erupting and
throwing rocks as far as three miles away. Pilots flying in the area should
steer clear of the crater.

Student Pilot equipment by

I'm a new student pilot (no aviation career plans) and am wondering:
What things should I buy for myself? Headset, logbook, calculator etc.
What makes sense to buy now and what should I wait on until I've flown
a while? What would make my training easier and more productive? Pilot

Setting QNH by

Back to the thread on pilots setting QNH for local acro work.
I was in the trusty Pawnee this weekend and checked the altimeter, I can

of setting QNH. I could not.
I attempted to find this information in my personal...
