IFR in A/C with Single Nav by
Rugby51
I am a relatively new CFII looking for some advice. I am starting an instrument student in a 172 that is bare bones IFR. The plane has a single nav with glideslope, a VFR GPS installation, and no ADF or DME. I haven't flown the plane on an IFR flight yet, but it seems that the way to make it...

YES! Passed the check ride by
Kevin Clarke
Whew. Well that was a grind.
After 17 mos of training I took the check ride today. It got scrubbed a
couple of time because of weather, winds once, snow once. The day
started with a flight from KFIT down to KSFZ to meet the examiner.
Beautiful flight 24 minutes or so down to Rhode Island. Winds...

Dreaming STARS by
[email protected]
Was I dreaming? Or did I once hear that RNP 1 and 2 stars/sids had
been published in the USA? I see type A and B, but these are RNAV,
and so must have no RNP requirement whatsoever, and can be flown by
any /G aircraft. Anyone provide some info?

Government/Jepp Plate Comparison by
rps
I've been away from flying for a while. I stopped flying at around the
time the government plates were rumored to be changing to a new format.
I used to use Jepps.
I picked up flying again recently. The pilot's store I went to was out
of the Jepp express packs, so I decided to give the...

FAA out of control by
TheTruth[_2_]
According to press reports to date, no less than 6, perhaps
more, commercial jet aircraft potentially carrying hundreds
of passengers per trip and sometimes on multiple trips per
day - had cracks in them. Had cracks in them. And people at
the FAA, and Southwest, knew it. And the planes had...

Boredom at the FSS by
vincent p. norris
On Sat, 08 Oct 2005 13:44:42 GMT, Matt Whiting
Yes, I would think that responding, even to a false alarm, would be a
lot more fun than sitting and playing cards all day.
Sometimes when I phone the FSS for a wx briefing, I get a long-winded
description and analysis of the wx...

Rolling a Non Aerobat 150 by
Jose
I have to ask why you feel it's
reasonable to turn this guy in to the FSDO but not to copy license
plate numbers of speeders and turn them in.
I didn't make the post, but I do have some reasons.
Way back when... when I was learning to fly and learning how the regs
worked, it was made clear...

Garmin 296 by
[email protected]
I've used a 295 for aviation purposes since it came out and a Street
Pilot III for auto trips.
Recently, issues developed with reestablishing the update chain for the
SP III road map software.
So, I decided to upgrade to a 296, which does "trains, planes, and
automobiles." (Actually, aviation,...

looking for a project by

Hi all,
I'm taking a break from the corporate world and want to make something.
I'm looking for suggestions that could make your aviation life easier.
Is there a electronic gadget or widget that would make your flying or
airplane experience better?

Instrument PTS vs. GPS AFM -- who wins? by
Roy Smith
I just noticed an interesting problem with the Instrument Rating PTS. It
says:
Aircraft and Equipment Required for the Practical Test
GPS equipment must contain the current database.
The problem is that not all GPS units require that the database be current.
The CNX-80 AFM Supplement...

CINCINNATI – For the second time in six months, a primary

Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) and lack of
appropriate secondary radar feeds severely delayed scores of

Here's some items to liven up the group...
1. Suppose your departure clearance includes "cross X vor at or above
5000, Y vor at or above 10,000, maintain 15,0000 feet." Once airborne
you're given "maintain FL200". Do the altitude restrictions at X and
Y vor's still apply?
