Talk about the high cost of aviation! by
C J Campbell
A local limo driver managed to back into the wingtip of a Falcon jet the
other day, bending the wingtip slightly. The small piece of aluminum,
containing mountings for the wingtip lights, had to be replaced. None of the
lights, the wiring, the light cover, or any other part of the airplane...

Life is horribly, horribly unfair by
Rosspilot
I am now so glad that I learned to fly and have my own humble little
airplane. It makes a difference. I think it really does.
Indeed it does. Your story reinforces my long-standing belief that life turns
on the thinnest of dimes, and that when your time comes, it won't matter if you
are...

Marine Radio using Aviation Antennae by
Wayne Paul
Doug,
Most aircraft antenna's are 1/4 wave length (about 22 inches.) A quarter
wavelength on marine frequencies is approximately 17 and a half inches.
This is out of the range of most handheld matching circuits. My conclusion
is that the answer to your question is...

Warbird Down, Pilot Missing by
H.J.
In WWII when a military aircraft went down in US territory on land with
missing aircrew:
Was it considered any big deal to the military - considering the war effort
going on overseas?
What kind of search would there be?
Which branch of the military would search?
What size search team would be...

Talk about runway incursions... by

So there I am, rolling on 32 (turf), the tail's just come up... when
an Archer blithely rolls right out in front of me on the taxiway for

You can't see much of the taxiway from the departure end of 4 because
of a hangar, and this guy was rolling along pretty good. He was fully
on the...

Newbie question Cessna or Beechcraft? by
rbboydston
Hello,
I live in Georgia and am planning on starting flight school at Southeastern
in Macon. They offer the option of either learning in a Cessna 172 or a
Beechcraft Sundowner. Is there a better choice between the two? I only
plan on getting my private pilot rating for trips with the wife and...

What's wrong with this idea? by
Ace Pilot
After reading the “Do you always file IFR?” thread, I
began thinking about some of the benefits of IFR flight that some

decrease your chances of colliding with a VFR aircraft and
you’re guaranteed flight...

Cool flight to WI today... by
Jay Honeck
With Mary as PIC, we flew to our old hometown of Racine, WI today, for my
son's 13th birthday. Because of an unusually tall layer of scattered
clouds, we ended up at 9500 feet to get above 'em.
On course at this altitude, we flew smack-dab into the Sunday afternoon
arrival "train" coming into...

Marine Radar in a plane? by
Jay Honeck
Yesterday, as we were once again flying blindly toward unknown weather, Mary
and I lamented the fact that we'll never have radar on board our Pathfinder.
Too expensive to contemplate. Ditto with the "live uplink" stuff that's
just coming on the market.
So, I thought, why not adapt a marine radar...

It is my understanding (always subject to correction) that as a safety pilot
you may log PIC time because you are indeed a required crew member for the
operation. However, to log PIC time you also must be qualified to act as
PIC of that particular aircraft.

Meigs reprieve 'compromise' !? by
Dr. Anthony J. Lomenzo
Ahhhh! There 'may' be a break-through at Meigs
and a compromise 'may' be reached with .... Mayor Daley!

What's that? I don't care for the guy...that's why! Or his ways. Or his
demeanor. Or his political machinations. Or his 'in your face' tantrums
when he wants his own...
