David Clark Isocom - how does it work? by John Clonts
We have this intercom unit in our 210 and it has worked fine in the four years we have owned the plane. http://www.davidclark.com/IntercomSys/isocom.htm However, there is the toggle switch on the unit labeled "Isocom". We have always left this switch in the "Off" position, because if we...

Sticking Lycoming O-360 valve again? by [email protected]
Hey all. Question about my Cherokee's O-360. When we first got it about 3.5 years ago, it was very low hours SOH, but almost 10 years. We had some sticking valves and bad oil consumption, so sent the jugs out to have the IRAN. At that time, in addition to the the IRAN, a few rusted valve...

GEL-GLOSS cleaner? by John Doe
Has anyone had any experience with GEL-GLOSS cleaner on their plane? I think they sell it at Lowe's and some other stores. Some guy during the standard rainy afternoon hangar talk said he uses it on his plane and it works great as a cleaner and is much cheaper than aviation cleaner. Any thoughts...

Registration question by Michael Horowitz
I'm reading the FAA CD for a Tcraft. I see in '90 that it sustained substantial damage, was deregistered as 'totally distroyed', then sold. Apparently someone resurrected it, because it was sold several years later using the same N number and it's currently flying in Florida. The CD (BTW) doesn't...

Poll: Ignition Harness Replacement by Jim Burns
The ignition harnesses on our Aztec are not the newest items on the airplane by any means. In fact, if somebody told me that they were original, I wouldn't be able to refute it. Our's show some fraying of the outer cover, some of the cigarettes are looking pretty old, showing fatigue, some of...

Bf 109F by Tri-Pacer
I saw an ad in my current Trade-a-Plane for a "new from the factory" Bf 109F still in its original shipping crate as manufactured in 1942. Has anyone heard anything about this find? I wonder if it's a scam? What a find--wow. Cheers: Paul

Engine Failures per Million Hours by [email protected]
I was wondering if anyone has ever found any hard data on the number of engine failures per million flight hours. I am specifically interested in the 0-300-D, the engine that I fly now, and the 0-470 which I'm looking at buying.... Anything helps... Thanks,

ME Insurance by Scott Draper
Can a multi-engine student get insurance for his own ME airplane, based on his instructor's ME time? One insurance company is saying "no way"; they'll only insure him AFTER he get's his ME rating. I'm wondering if this is universally true.

****************** For those of you who think you have had a wild ride, read this: Bill Weaver : SR-71 BREAKUP Among professional aviators, there's a well-worn saying: Flying is simply hours of boredom punctuated by moments of stark terror. And yet, I don't recall too many periods of boredom...
