Is any one or has anyone been in ATC school? If so where did you go and how was it? Also what is the starting pay for a new towere or center controller? How does the salary increase over time? Thanks.

Anyone familiar with ATC-510 simulator? by John Harlow
I just bought one of these with the intention to gut it and use it as the cockpit for a PC flight simulator setup. However, it still seems to work and is fairly interesting to use as it is. However, I have no idea how to use it as it was originally intended; what to set the xponder, ADF, com...

VOTE ...HTML or Plain Text??? by Montblack
I was surprised by the acceptance of an HTML post in another thread. I, for one, could read the HTML fine. Others said the same thing. Has the time come for HTML in the newsgroup(s)? My (change is bad - we fear change) vote is no HTML ... for now. I'm being fuddy-duddy with my reason: I get...

Homebrew EFB from Tablet PC by blanche cohen
Have you checked into Destination Direct? Runs in Wintel, has the ability to support most GPS in real-time, has the capability to display current charts, and supports flight-planning both VFR and IFR.

Online radio primer? by Roger Long
I'm about to make my first cross country outside of our comfortable New England airspace where flight following is pretty much automatic and you just keep tuning in the next frequency they give you. I'm not sure if things will be the same out in the wilds of western New York and Ohio. Can anyone...

MMU ramp fee by Peter Gottlieb
Just returned from Oshkosh to NY. Due to some "interesting" weather along the route, it took 2 days and multiple stops, with some legs having to be IFR. Every FBO along the way was super, and at virtually all of them I bought either fuel or something else. However, at MMU, where I wanted to make...

Suunto watches by K i t W â l k e r
Slightly OT but has anyone ever used a Suunto watch while flying? I'm thinking about getting one for my climbing /skiing etc. and it dawned on me that the 3' altimeter (supposedly accurate to 29000') might be a handy back-up. Just wondering Cheers, Kit

Boeing 307 Starting Up! by Jay Honeck
A guy named "Oshkosh Jerry" has posted an absolutely stunning MP3 file of the gorgeous Boeing 307 Clipper starting up at Oshkosh. It's over on the binary channel, "alt.binaries.pictures.aviation". It's a huge download, but well worth it for anyone who loves the sound of four big round engines...

GPS 90b out of date? by Roger Long
I'm trying to get a garage sale Garmin GPS 90 going and it won't acquire satellites. It starts saying "SVA Cycle 9607 20 June 96 to 18 July 96". 1996 was a while ago. Is there something in this unit that needs to be updated? -- Roger Long

How much should a friend charge to fly? by Jim Fisher
Long story but some financial doldrums I've experienced for the past year look to be coming to an end. I sold my way-too-big house and am getting into something less insane. Business is recovering and, I dare say, rocking. My purdy wife still loves me. Life is good. More importantly, soaring...

Non-Alcoholic Beers by John Theune
It came up in another forum that O'Douls ( a non-alcoholic beer ) is not truly non-alcoholic, but rather it's less then .5%. A reference to a http://www.drugs.indiana.edu/publications/iprc/factline/lowalc.html tells more and points out that these types of beverages are not considered alcoholic...
