In Kitplanes January 2002 issue, Jim Weir wrote on how to build a volt/ammeter from a Radio Shack 910-4919 digital voltmeter. The Radio Shack people advised me that they no longer carry the voltmeter. Does anyone know if there is a substitute? Can one of these cheap multimeters from throw-away...

LOM Mikron Engines by [email protected]
Hi, I am thinking about building a Pietenpol Air Camper and need an engine for it. The LOM Mikron seemed to be a good choice, I heard it costs around 6K US. I called Moravia, the LOM distributor in Canada and they literally said 9.9K euro which is 12K US. I can probably buy a new 912UL for...

"scratchy" radio transmission; update by [email protected]
While it was a busy day on the airways (radio wise) I had the same result; ATC said scratchy but readable at 15 miles. Tried twisting my arm around the back of the seat to use the rear PTT but it was too painful while wating for the frequency to open up. I did try calling up another aircraft at an...

290G Question / Help by [email protected]
I have a converted 290G and would like to add an alternator. I have the alternator the correct old style case mounting bracket, pulley, etc. My problem is that the 290G does not appear to have a machined boss for attaching the tensioning. I have seen photos of several 290G's with alternators so I...

Propeller Balance Master by Casey Curtis
Has anyone used the propeller balance master and have you had good success? I would like to try one on a pusher 912 with a two blade prop. I can't seem to get the owner at www.balancemasters.com to call me back and answer my questions. Any input sure would help. Thank you Casey

Tensile Strength Question Continued by Dick
okay, got pounds per Square Inch and elongation differences and the failure sequence in my noodle. For simplicity, let's use 120,000 and 80,000 psi numbers. So if the 120,000 # piece is .667 square inches and the 80,000# piece is 1.0 square inch,,,are the elongations the same??? Thanks, Dick

dimpling by Mike Rapoport
When I dimple holes in thin sheet they get larger to the point where the clecos won't hold. Should I drill holes that are to be dimpled for 1/8 rivets a little smaller (like #31 or #32)? What are others doing? Mike Murphy Moose.

Advice on landing lights? by Rob Turk
We're looking at installing landing lights on our Rans S6S. The ones offered by Aircraft Spruce are a bit big, about 5" diameter. I'm trying to find something a bit smaller but equally effective. Does anyone here know what (if any) requirements a landing light has, such as beam angle,...

Rotax vs. Jabiru by Cal Vanize
As I continue to research, the Zodiac XL and the Sonex are on the short list. Both offer a couple of engine options including Rotax 912 (variations) and the Jabiru 3300. Real-world performance doesn't seem like it would be that much different, at least on paper. I hope this isn't a religious...

"oh, that's common practice" by mhorowit
I was attempting to set up a pre-purchase inspection on a Tcraft at Ft. Lauderdale. The owner said he'd need a $500 non-refundable deposit before anyone did the inspection. "they might nick the prop, or drop a sparkplug or....". and he said "that's common practice". Having looked at 5 Tcraft in the...

583 vs. geo/metro engine 's weights by [email protected]
Does anyone know the power and weight comparison between a rotax 583 vs. geo/metro engine . When I said geo/metro I'm not too up on them , so I suppose I'd be meaning the most powerful carburated one that is non- turbo . Thanks Ed
