IFR flight Sunday by
John Clonts
I flew up to Abilene (ktpl-kabi-ktpl) to pick up my daughter Sunday...
I took off at about 4 into 200 and 1 1/2. I had gotten there early
and planned to do a couple of approaches before I left, but I decided
to go ahead and top off (had about 3.5 hours in the tanks), and there
were a couple of...

aware of my presence, pretty healthy Xwind on landing and progressive

IFR flight to the NE practice area - Video with ATC COMS by
[email protected]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9KlvBSh2uo
Wanted to go touch some clouds today. Hopefully this video will be a
stark reminder to get NOTAMS no matter how short the flight may be..
Airport 5 minutes from where I am based was closed due to a model jet
air show and I probably would have missed...

IFR flight to the practice area with ATC COMMS - Video by
[email protected]
I was determined to touch a cloud today. Been quite some time and I
need to maintain my proficiency even if I couldn't do an approach in
actual conditions at least I did poke my head inside a cloud.

Flight was a pop up IFR where I requested a block...

conducted in actual conditions.

anywhere as you will see my departure weather and destination...

IFR Flightplanning Software by
Kai Glaesner
Hello,
who in this group has some experience with IFR flightplanning software? I
think about a software that knows about SID's und STAR's, MSA's (or MORA's),
not necessarily with a graphical user interface but capable of printing a
flight log.
Thanks in advance...

IFR from CQX (Chatham, MA) by
Andrew Gideon
I see that CQX has a clearance delivery frequency, so IFR ops there
apparently don't require a phone call to FSS (excluding the filing, of
course).
But when IFR out of KCDW, I can expect release delays because CDW
departures are treated with lower priority than TEB, EWR, and probably...

IFR GNS 430 with expired database by
Jose
I have been told that it is illegal to fly IFR in an aircraft that has
an operating IFR rated GNS 430, whose database is out of date, =even= if
it is placarded INOP, placed in the OFF position, and the airplane, even
without the 430, is otherwise legal for IFR.
True?

IFR GPS by
pgbnh
Looking to upgrade the panel to include an IFR GPS. Are there really any
alternatives to Garmin? (either 430 or 480 or 530) (where alternative is
defined as comparable functionality for comparable price)?

IFR GPS by
Stephen Merrifield
I seem to be having a hard time grasping this...
My ADF has taken a nose dive for the final time and I'd like to install an
IFR GPS to be able to use it in lieu of an ADF and DME and the moving map
would be nice as well. ( I fly with a handheld Garmin 196 already ). So
here's my problem. I think...

IFR GPS certification by
nobody
I guess I've been living under a rock. I wanted to update the VFR GPS in
the panel to an IFR model. I started getting quotes on recon GNC 300XLs.
The units themselves were about 2,500-3,000. I was shocked to find out that
I had to install an annunciator, a new indicator and approx 30 hrs...

IFR GPS replace DME / ADF? by
[email protected]
Hello,
I'm new to IFR and just learning... if our plane doesn't have an ADF or
a DME... can we legally use, say a garmin 430, to do a NDB approach?
Also, can these garmin 430/480/530 units get you the DME?
Also, are RNAVs still used often?
Thanks,

IFR Ground Training by
Scott Lowrey
As a soon-to-be-minted private pilot, what are the experiences of
others concerning instrument training and self-teaching?
I don't have a problem flying with my current flight school to get the
hours, but I question the need for their formal ground school and the
requisite pile of books.
I'm an...

IFR Groundcourse: Which books by
Thomas Wimmer
Hello
I'm staying for some months in Mojave, and would like to use the
opportunity to get my instrument rating while in the US.
In order to prepare myself (for the written test as well as for the
whole ifr stuff generally), I would like to do some home-study before
travelling to the US.
What...

IFR hold short line at uncontrolled airports? by
Peter R.
Today I dropped an Angel Flight patient off at Massena, NY (KMSS), an
uncontrolled airport in the very north portion of NY state. The weather
was 50 feet above minimums and the ILS was the only way in.
Once the patient was safely in the warm terminal, I preflighting and
started up, only to...

IFR in a Mooney to Charlotte - Follow up by

Quick follow up on my IFR to CLT in a Piston Single.
Thanks to the group for the info - it was quite useful.
Took the trip starting last Thursday - used CLT ATC's web site to time
my arrival during a "slow" period.
I did ask my local controller if they had any LOA's with CLT. I'm
based in...

IFR in A/C with Single Nav by
Rugby51
I am a relatively new CFII looking for some advice. I am starting an instrument student in a 172 that is bare bones IFR. The plane has a single nav with glideslope, a VFR GPS installation, and no ADF or DME. I haven't flown the plane on an IFR flight yet, but it seems that the way to make it...

I am thinking of a flight into Ingalls airport in Hot Springs, VA this Fall.
It's elevation is 3,792' and has a 5000+ foot runway. It is surrounded by
several washboard-like mountains. Look at the picture on airnav:
