Blogs about soaring and aviation by
Roger Worden
Blogs (web logs) are a rather new type of web site where the author
periodically adds new articles about current events or simply his thoughts
about a subject. As with RAS and other forums, helpful comments and
additions are welcomed. Unlike on RAS, rants are not so welcome. :-)
I have found just...

Towing by
Roger Fowler
I recently rode with a towpilot who leaned the engine
aggresively after retarding throttle at the start of
the descent. While he is probably correct that it
slows the rate of cylinder cooling significantly, I
had never seen it done before. Is anyone else using
this procedure?

Sealing an ASW 28 canopy by
Bob Caldwell
After seeing the thread about the PIK canopies I wanted
to ask if anyone had taken any extra ordinary steps
to seal an ASW canopy. To date all I have done is
to put some sticky back foam at the front near the
demist vent. It is pretty good but I suspect it can
be better. I have heard that it...

Twin Cadillac? by
[email protected]
I found the article in the Washington Post interesting:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/02/AR2005070201186.html
But the comment right at the end "The Grob Twin Astir, the Cadillac of
two-seaters, snapped free, surfing upward on a rising column of warm
air" was amusing,...

PENNINES NEAR PENRITH - UK by
Malcolm Austin
Hi,
for those that know the area, this question may not be a surprise.
I am often driving up the M6 on my way to north Cumbria, and to my right
(going north)
there seems to be a long ridge of good height which seems to shout for some
ridge
soaring.
Question is, there doesn't seem to be any...

How to get winpilot data base changed? by
[email protected]
The problem is not in WinPilot it is in the FAA records of airports.
If no one reports an airport closed it simply stays in the FAA data
base for years. I flew at Hobbs, NM for twelve years and chartsw
showed "Two Legs" private airport south of Denver City, TX but I could
never see it from the...

How do you get Winpilot aviation database changed? by
Birdbones
My Winpilot aviation database shows an airport that does not exist
adjacent to our actual airport. It also does not show a public airport
with 7,700' gravel runway 25 miles away. Does anyone know how to submit
changes to the aviation database? Only user waypoints can be edited in
Winpilot.
The...

Passenger Comfort..... by
[email protected]
I'm a relatively new commercial pilot and have had several passengers
with NPE...near puke events! Some have been uncomfortable from the
moment we start the tow, others at altitude and others while
thermaling. I keep the chatter going, recommend steady breathing and
to look at the horizon. I make...

OLC edit by
Jack
Is it possible to correct an OLC entry which shows the wrong date for a flight?
I made two flights, one on 8-5 and the other on 8-6. Both show up on the OLC
site as being made on the 6th, and during overlapping time periods. The
begin- and end-time is correct for each, but though it's impossible...
