Fujitsu LT C-500 as EFB questions... by
greg
I'm looking for comments and suggestions specifically about using a
Fujitsu LT C-500 as a backup tool for approach plates using Jeppview
with Flightdeck.
Although I'll always be printing my plates, would it really be
possible to use this thing in a pinch?
Has anyone tried a USB GPS with one of...

Shadin flowmeter problems - anyone else sees this? by
Bill Zaleski
I have used a Microflo for 4000 hours now. I have found that unless
you leave power on for about one minute after setting FOB, the gal
remaining, or the fuel used, I can't remember which, will not be
correct. Yes, it is EEPROM memory, and does not need power to hold
data, but seems to need power...

ILS Critical Area signage: Localizer or Glideslope? by
Adam K.
Hi,
Does the ILS Critical Area sign apply to the localizer or the
glideslope antenna? Or is this is a dumb question?
CCR (Concord California) 19R has a localizer approach. No glideslope.
It has an ILS Critical Area sign. I read recently that ILS
equipped fields require the ILS critical area sign...

Current Pilots and/or CFI's -- FAR/AIM by
JBoDEAN
Just curious.
What brand FAR/AIM do you prefer? I've been using ASA's and debating
on trying something new for the 2004 edition. I know Gleim, ASA, Jepp
all have their FAR/AIM.
The other CFI's I work with here use the Jepp (book version, not the
subscription).

Another Instrument written question.... by
[email protected]
One of the questions in the FAA exam (I don't have the number in front of me)
Shows a panel where the altimeter and VSI are both still and the Airspeed is very low.
The Attitude indicator looks normal for pitch.
The "Correct" answer is that the pitot system or the airspeed indicator has...

GPS 16L at KHEF by
PA28Rdrvr
Hello. I see there are lots of smart folks in this NG and I learn a lot
from you. I have a question that I sure someone can answer for me. I'm not
so knowledgeable about some of the GPS approach procedures. I was reviewing
the GPS 16L @ KHEF (Manassas VA) and am not sure which DH is applicable...

who uses FSS? by
McGregor
I get my pre-flight briefings from:
*) weathertap - RadarLab, area outlook, tafs, progs
*) ADDS - flightpath tool for AIRMETS & winds aloft along the route
*) FlightStar - to tell me how long it'll take, print nice-looking flight
plans, plan fuel stops, etc.
Then I call flight service and listen...

IFR GPS by
Stephen Merrifield
I seem to be having a hard time grasping this...
My ADF has taken a nose dive for the final time and I'd like to install an
IFR GPS to be able to use it in lieu of an ADF and DME and the moving map
would be nice as well. ( I fly with a handheld Garmin 196 already ). So
here's my problem. I think...

More KAP 140 questions by
News
I have another KAP 140 question for the group. Is there a way to have a
dual axis w/ pre-select model of the KAP140 act as though it is only a
single axis? Sometimes I want to engage the AP in heading mode but take
care of pitch myself. Engaging the AP in heading mode makes the AP
automatically...

Constant Angle Non-Precision Approaches (CANPA) by
John Bell
I noticed the thread about "Crossing a stepdown fix high" got quite a bit of
debate. One of the topics in much of the discussion centered on stabilized
approaches verses dive and drive.
I was initially a skeptic on using CANPA, but I have come to believe that it
is a better way of flying...

GPS approaches with Center by
Dan Luke
How many here have flown GPS approaches with Center as the approach control?
I'd be interested to hear your experiences.
I needed to fly one yesterday to get into Greenville, AL and the ZTL
controller sounded really befuddled about quite how to handle it. Because of
another recent experience, I...

req: a favor from someone who subscribes to Jepp for Hawaii by

I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has a Jepp chart
subscription that covers Hawaii. I'd like to get hold of at least the
low altitude enroute chart and hopefully also the approach plates for
Kona, Hilo, and (especially) Kamuela. The latter, which is where our
2nd home is, just got...

Crossing a stepdown fix high by
David Brooks
Is there any problem with controllers or examiners if I cross a stepdown fix
several hundred feet above the depicted altitude? I believe that, legally,
I can be at any altitude above the crossing minimum, but would this be a
bust of the PTS +/-100 tolerance, or cause a problem for ATC?
For...
