70% P-38 by cmyr
On another site (Emerauders.com) It was mentioned that a retired Aero engineer in Texas had built a P-38, there were pics, but I was unable to open them. It was all metal with a jump seat for his co- builder (wife) Has anyone seen this aircraft?

Q for Jim Weir or others: solid state fuel level probes? by Charlie England
Jim or anyone else who has 'been there', Are circuit boards available for the capacitive fuel guages featured in the year2000 Kitplanes articles? Or (more desirable to me) is there an easily fabricated optical sensor available for fuel level measurement? Other options???

Does anyone have a link for the site that listed the weights of certified and experimental engines? I can't seem to find it again.

Corvair Engine Conversion Breakin Success by Dick
William Wynne and his talented team helped me achieve a successful breakin on my '65, 100hp "Airvair". His manual was my bible and other than one slightly misadjusted valve, a couple of initial oil leaks and a balky carb, things went well. Whatever tools, etc that I had forgotten to bring were...

I just bought X-Plane and want to share my experience by Bruce Shankle
Dear fellow aviation enthusiasts, I recently purchased X-Plane and had such an interesting experience that I thought I'd share (see http://home.nc.rr.com/bshankle/xplane.html). I am curious if any of you have had an experience anywhere close to mine? Sincerely, Bruce Shankle

RT-359A transponder question by Lars
Anyone out there who knows the pinout of the rear connector of the ARC RT-359A transponder? We just got an altitude encoder to go with the unit (an ACK A-30) in hope for a little better reception from the ATC when flying in controlled airspace... The ACK installation manual is fine, giving the pin...

Single-rotor Mazda engines.... any flying our there? by Pete
I am toying with teh idea of using a single-rotor turbo-normalized mazda with reduction-drive and was wondering if there are any builders out there who have checked out the same possibility? I'm only looking for around 100-120 hp, with weight an obvious consideration. The only name I have heard of...

Citabria 7ECA Exhaust Wanted by Capt. Dave
Hi Citabria with a Lycoming 0-235, Homebuilt. I need an exhaust system similar to an RV4's including heat muffs. I don't know if an 0-320 has the same exhaust as an 0-235. Apparently the crossover option is a must for horsepower, and the intake tubes and carb location are different than...

Off topic, Gore and the internet (don't read if not interested) by Corky Scott
To be merciful, I've changed the subject heading so that those who don't care to read any more about this subject can simply delete it or skip over without opening it. I figured that there had to be more to Gore's one liner. Politicians don't normally feed ammunition to the opposition so I looked...

Fuel Drip Containment by Sven
Hi Jim, I have seen people hang an empty plastic oil bottle on the fuel vent to catch the dripping fuel on Cessnas. Have you tried this? It shouldn't be too much of a fire hazard and will save your hangar floor. Just make sure that you drain the bottle regularly because the angle it sits on the...

Engine update, good and bad news by nauga
The bad news: There was a welded repair on the #2 cylinder, right next to the intake valve. Looks like the stress around the repair warped either the valve stem or the valve guide. There was no scoring on the cylinder walls and the rings were intact, and it was apparent that oil was coming in...

Rear engine in a crash question by BernadetteTS
I've been reading through the BD-5 thread and have a question. I guess this is an opinion thread but what happens to a rear engine mounted directly behind the pilot in a crash? In something like an ultralight, BD-5, Cutiss pusher or Vari-EZ does an engine have a tendency to rip loose and go...

Fiberglass vs. Fabric by Lou
Ok, I just finished reading Tony Bingelis's "sportplane builder" section on covering a wooden plane with fiberglass instead of the intended fabric. Has anyone in this group ever done this or some who knows someone who has done this? I'm building a wooden place that calls for a fabric covering. ...

Oshkosh gate admission on Sunday 24th? by Montblack
I've not been to Oshkosh on the first weekend, always later in the week. Can you walk around looking at planes (for free) on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th? Show opens on Monday, July 25th. When do they start charging 'gate admission' at Oshkosh? What's open/available the first weekend vs. what's...
