R22 owners please help with AD 2004-06-52 by
rotortrash
For those of you unaware the FAA has issued an emergency AD
(2004-06-52) on March 18, 2004 that requires any R22 blade older than
10 years may no longer be used. The basis for the AD is questionable.
Little if any documented research was done to verify that the age of
the blade has any effect on...

Presidential Helicopter by
Helowriter
Politics and payback aside, is anyone else upset by the fact that the
Navy chose a less-safe, lower-performance helicopter to carry the
President of the United States?
For starters, the S-92 and EH101 were designed a generation apart as
far as flaw-tolerant design and birdstrike and turbine...

First helicopter (Remember those days?) by
Jim
Hello everyone,
I bet this has been covered many times before, and I apologize for
asking yet again. I further apologize for the long post. I'm one of
those new, soon-to-be pilots that needs a lot of advice. I thought if
I gave a bunch of information, some might see how serious I am and
might also...

Ok, ask me. What do you want to know about the "Mini-500 prototype". It
was the first Mini-500 I built, so it was a prototype. What point are
you trying to make? Please just...

Dumb Question by
JohnO
When designing rotor systems, you have to keep the tip speed subsonic
to prevent all sorts of problems and losses that would otherwise occur
at the sound barrier, right?
What about large turbofan engines such as on modern airliners? The fan
tips must be travelling at many orders of magnitude...

Rotor Balancing by
Stuart & Kathryn Fields
I just had a strange one. I have been balancing my rotor system using a DSS
balancer where I would get the ips and phase angle measurements, turn the
rotor to the angle with respect to the photo cell described by the phase
angle information, then sight over the velocimeter and add weight to the...

Flat free ground handling wheels by
Stuart & Kathryn Fields
I recently tried a pair of Marathon flat free wheelbarrow tires to replace
my pneumatic tires that had developed the habit of slowly leaking out the
air.
@#$%^ The rolling resistance was so great I couldn't move the helicopter by
myself. In fact even with my wife's help it was very hard to get...

Hi there!
I am looking for a list or a library of Disk Loadings and Power Loadings for

data on V22 Osprey (different DL in a site and in a book??), so I wnted to
make sure...
I need them for a research (comparisons...

UK RNAS Culdrose Airshow- anyone going? by
Joe landy
Hi all, Believe it's soon the weekend of Culdrose airshow. Anyone going?
In fact, some web pages quote the 19th, others quote 16th. I thought it was
on for 2 or 3 days?
I'm in Cambridgeshire, so it's a bit of a trek by road. Anyone from my area
dropping in by air? I'd be interested in hitching a...

consider accidents...

Gyro Rotor Wing Toy Kite by
Tha RagMan
A Google search didn't turn up anything so let me appeal direct. Some
years ago I saw a vendor selling a little plastic toy gyrocopter at a
PRA Fly-In that flew much like a kite in the wind at the end of a
line. Over the next couple years I saw the same toy at EAA events such
as Lakeland and...
