NASA F-104's in new issue of Wings by Tony
For those of us who love those NASA F-104's, the current issue of Wings (Feb.2004) has a great spread on them. Lots of color shots of the JF-104A as well as the F-104N's. I recommend picking up a copy, you won't be disappointed. Now, where did I put that Hasegawa kit.... Tony

Abject surrender by Tony
Well, we now have the first surrender in the War on Terror. Spain has surrendered to Al Quada and will remove its troops from Iraq. Do the Spanish really think that will be Al Quada's last demand?

80 JDAM82s by Tony
We were BS'ing the other day about the B-2 bombers ability to drop 80 GPS guided 500 pounders at one go and what could be done with that capability. I noted that you could actually draw simple cartoons with 80 bomb craters. One of the guys suggested a smiley face. I thought that was a bit over the...

Thunderbird6 ejection photo by Tony
This is certainly "aviation" and "military" - but I'm not so sure about the "rec" part. Came across this on another newsgroup and thought some might like to see this excellent photo of the USAF Thunderbird #6. The photo of the ejection was taken from the control tower at Mountain Home AFB, ID...

Tankers - 767 or 7E7? by Tony
I have been wondering why the Air Force doesn't look to buy tanker versions of the 7E7, rather than 767s? From what I've read, the discounted price of a 7E7 to the airlines will be under $100 million, possibly well under. So a 100 of them would cost less than the $10 billion being cited as the...

A new book will shortly be published: 'Flying Guns: World War 1' by Emmanuel Gustin and myself (FG:WW2 was published earlier this year). My publishers, the Crowood Press, would like to know where it might be useful to advertise the book or send review copies, particularly any magazines dealing with...

Can the V-22: bring back the Rotodyne! by Tony Williams
The problems which have been experienced by the V-22 Osprey are a reminder of one very successful alternative: the Fairey Rotodyne. See: http://www.groenbros.com/tech/FaireyRotodyne.htm This was a large, passenger gyrodyne which had a separate lift rotor and two turboprops mounted on a short wing....

Tornado GR.4 by Tony Williams
I have been looking at some photos of the GR.4 recently and the gun muzzles seem to have been replaced by a pair of fairings with windows - presumably some sort of sensor or designator. Can anyone confirm that the guns have been removed? Tony Williams Military gun and ammunition website:...
