Upper Surface Blowing (USB) by
Charles Gray
I recall that USB was mentioned in several books of the 1980's, not
simply for transport, but as a method of producing STOL close air
support and bombing aircraft.
While the russians had a transport, and I believe we also did, I
haven't seen much more about USB, and nothign about applying it...

Rolls Royce Meteor V 2 engine from a Centurion tank by
The Raven
Can anyone tell me how similar these engines were to the Merlin? I know they
were a derivative but being intended for ground use may be so totally
different as to be useless for any aviation application.
Why do I ask? An acquaintance has just acquired a complete Meteor engine and
is looking to...

Aircraft bomb frag patterns by
Mike D
Am trying to find some info to help accurize (a somewhat outdated)
Vietnam era flight sim - Janes Fighters Anthology. Can any of you
military folks remember any numbers about the blast frag distances for
various aircraft bombs - 500/750/2000/3000 lb? How about
nape/CBUs/2.75 in FFARs? What would be...

Does anyone know which military airport has the most runways and which
one has the longest runway? The Rogers Lakebed portion of Edwards Air
Force Base in Southern California has at least 15 (paved and unpaved)
runways, one of which has a paved length of more than 15,000 feet
(~4,500 metres) with...

GET SOME! Bush is Toast by
WalterM140
NEW YORK — If I've heard it once, I've heard it a hundred times from
discouraged Democrats and liberals as the Republican convention here
wrapped up this week. Their shoulders hunched, their eyes at a droop,
they lower their voice to a whisper hoping that if they don't say it
too loud it may not...

The B-2 Stealth Bomber by
Chuck Lysaght
At Alltel Stadium yesterday, I watched a B-2 bomber do a flyover, and
what a site to behold. It's the first time I've seen this aircraft.
You could hardly see it as it approached. No sound, but after it
passed the stadium it was very loud.
Here's a picture of the...

F-86 and sound barrier by

I was watching the Discovery Channel program comparing the

barrier. I know that this has been claimed many time before
but is that the official position of the US Air Force? Is
Yeager still officially the first man to break the...

On this 4th of July let us honor all who fought. But let us especialy never
forget the special few who came forward volunteering and said, "Take me. I'll
go" It was these men who formed American elite units; Marines, Airborne,
Seals, Submarine Service, Air Corps and Air Forces. We owe them all...
