C-172L Questions by
[email protected]
Having carefully analyzed my flight requirements and plans for the next
five years or so, I've decided to take the plunge, probably on a
C-172L that I've been looking at. The fixed costs are right about
the amount of what I've been spending renting (actually a little
lower) and I'm about ready to...

Mandatory 100hr checks - when? Also Dry Lease by
Doug
You have the correct FAR. If it is not required in the FAR, it is not
required. So for just rental, no instruction FOR HIRE (free instruction
OK), you do not need a 100 hour inspection.
Most planes that are rented are used for paid instruction, so most
rentals require 100 hours. Also there is the...

Answers to questions asked in previous threads my new toy by
Jack Allison
Something strange is happening with my news server...not all
posts/replies are showing up so I can't answer folks asking questions
about N2104T. I'm able to see everything with Goggle groups though.
I'd reply from there but am wondering about being spammed as you need to
provide a valid e-mail...

Beech Sundowner/Sierra PIREP wanted by
Don Byrer
Saw an interesting article in Private Pilot mag about the Sierra.
Roomy & stable....sounds like my kind of plane.
Prices look decent; and the FG Sundowner even cheaper (and more
insurable for a 150-hour pilot than the RG Sierra)
Looking for something that can handle two large adults + baggage...

Pirep on replacing interior plastic parts by
[email protected]
A recent post bemoaned the high cost of replacement interior plastic parts
from the original manufacturer (in this case, Cessna). I suggested that
parts of this type are available, often at lower cost, from PMA sources.
This led to a discussion of relative merits of original vs. PMA,...

Piper PA28 Series by
jsmith
First, the discussion on Jack's new Arrow regarding the rheostat and
landing gear lights was a good refresher for me this past Saturday.
I flew a P28T (Piper Turbo Arrow IV) 6.7 hours on three legs.
I didn't check the lights upon startup and taxi (it was daylight and the
gear was down as I pulled...

Aircraft Engine Operating Guide by
Mark Hansen
I'm trying to locate a copy of the Kas Thomas book
"Lightplane Maintenance: Aricraft Engine Operating Guide"
I found a review at Amazon.com from the author explaining that
the TAB edition of the book is a rip-off from his original book,
published by Belvoir Publications.
Does anyone know how I...

DME recommendations by
mindenpilot
Let me start by admitting my ignorance about DME's.
In my plane I have to KX-170Bs, one indicator has GS.
I also have an ADF.
I have no DME, and I've never used one.
I've started studying for my instrument written test.
I've noticed that a large number of approaches would either be more
difficult...

Paint shops in Northwest by
Mike Rapoport
I am looking for PIREPS on paintshops in the Northwest that have extensive
experience with pressurized airplanes. I am interested in those that use
either particle blasting or chemical stripping.. Any pricing info (either
shop rate or what a particular airplane cost to paint) would be...

Flying into AGC (Pittsburgh) info by
Doodybutch
To all...
I have to fly into AGC (Pittsburgh, PA) this weekend. It's been several
years since I've been there. I remember the last time I flew IFR out of
there heading east, my clearance was really weird and long (like "intercept
the 257 radial off the XXX VOR then...bla-bla-bla) Apparently this...

10,000 Hail Mary's and a pox on mechanics by
Denny
I recently wrote about my adventures with Fat Albert the Apache and the
session on the torture rack known as "the annual"... For a quick
review: I replaced the Southwind with a new gas heater, and a new
torque tube and actuator arm for the flaps, repaired a stuck valve on
the port engine (my first...

Nothing new, I guess by
[email protected]
I took the advice of someone on this group to have my interior
refurbishing done by Airborne Upholstery at Stoudsburg/Pocono (N53).
They are (BTW) excellent and do a fabubulous (and very fair-priced)
job. No complaint there and I am VERY pleased.
But in replacing the headliner, we decided that it...

A week ago I became a new co-owner by
bdl
I thought I had posted this last week, but it appears it never got to
the Usenet at large so here's try #2. After all the praise Jack
Allison's been getting on his new bird, I've become a little jealous.
(And what a nice bird it is Jack)
I've become a new co-owner in a 4-way in an existing...

Stuff that I can remember off the top of my head:

- DRE-468 intercom
- KX-155 COM2
- Vertical compass
- 180 SMOH...well, after our return trip, that's more like 195-ish SMOH
- Less than 3000 TTAF

JW Miller STCs? by
Jim Burns
Does anybody know if JW Miller Aviation of Texas is still in business? They
used to be out of Marble Falls, TX and had a lot of STCs for Aztec and
Comanche Modifications. I'd like to find a list of them and to see if they
are still manufacturing.
Thanks
Jim
