How high can you fly a Cessna 172? by Victor
How high do you normally fly a Cessna 172. Have only been flying on sea level airport and now will be flying on airports at aprox 7500' . To get from one place to the other I might have to climb to 12500'. Do you think that a 172 is able to do that?

Circular Runway by jsmith
Good article in the recent issue of AIR & SPACE. A USN pilot got the idea for a circular runway after experiencing an engine failure and landing on a country road. He proposed the Navy test the idea. He was killed in an accident, but someone carried the ball got the testing approved. The tests were...

Sun N Fun! by Jay Honeck
Anyone else going? We're departing for Lakeland tomorrow afternoon, hoping to make it as far as Alabama before hitting the thunderstorms down thataway. It looks like a stationary front might be setting right smack in the middle of things for a day or two, but we're ready to have a good time...

Emergency Procedures by RD
How many of you have memorized all the emergency procedures. The only one I really know is the engine failure procedure. I have to admit, if any other emergency was to develop I think I'm unprepared and it's time I do some re-familiarization of procedures. On a side note, I'm a bit confused about...

Dumping Flying Magazine by Dave
Is it me, or has Flying become among the worst GA magazines to read? Why does it seem that all I read about are trip reports from Mac and Dick Collins that, personally, offer little educational value? Each of these guys write serveral articles per issue. Are they that hard up for good writers, or...

Where to rent in Anchorage, AK by 'Vejita' S. Cousin
I'm a private pilot from the Seattle area. I'm going to be in Anchorage from now until 5/7/04. I was looking at airnav and the two local airports (PANC PAMR) don't seem to have planes for rent. Can someone recommend a club/FBO in the area?

Spin Training by Captain Wubba
Hello. I'm finishing up my CFI training. My CFI and I went up in a 172 (certified for spins) and tried to get the plane to spin for my spin training. The airplane was loaded properly in the utility category. We could not get the airplane to enter a fully developed spin. It would enter the incipient...

Why did the University of Iowa replace natural grass with Astroturf? To discourage the cheerleaders from grazing during games. How many UI freshmen does it take to change a light bulb? None.....That's a sophomore course at UI. What does a UI football player get on his final exams? Drool. How can...

C172SP engine start with battery switch only? by Robert Winn
Rented a C172SP (Made in 1999) on 04/10/04 and was told to start the engine with the battery side of the master switch only on, then turn on the alternator side after the engine was running. I was told that this was a new recommendation for all C172SP's. Can someone tell me where to find the text...
