Updating Avionics - How I Remember What's What! by
John DeRosa OHM Ω http://aviation.derosaweb.net
Updating files/firmware on my avionics should be easy. Then why is it so hard?
Heck, I am an electrical engineer. I have been around computers since high school (early 70's). I was in Information Technology for MANY years and still do this on a volunteer basis. I should be able to handle...

iGlide functionality by
John Foster
In an effort not to hijack a recent thread any more than I've already done, I decided to start this thread here to deal with any/all my questions regarding this software.
I'm running the "Lite" version of this currently on an iPhone XS Max. So far it is pretty basic in that it will log my flights...

Diana-2 and overall performance discussion by
tommytoyz[_2_]
I find it amazing that there are not more pilots flying the Diana-2 at
the worlds, since it seems to be head and shoulders above anything
else in the 15M. I guess too many pilots do not like the side stick or
lack of manufacturer reputation. Maybe the Australia fiasco stopped
many. Or are there...

PowerFlarm at Uvalde? by
Dave Hoppe[_2_]
I find it odd that there's no posts regarding the first-time use of
PowerFlarm in a US contest. Surely they're all flying with them.

Electronic Yaw Alarm? by
Matt Herron Jr.
There has been much needed focus on safety in our ranks recently, and
in particular the risk of spinning during the turn to final. This is
almost always caused by slow, uncoordinated flight. Many of us go
through the trouble of installing an electronic gear up warning to
prevent a costly, but...

Cost of IGC approved loggers by
[email protected]
Are IGC approved loggers too expensive? What is there cost point
compared to a Barograph and camera setup? I.E. The cost of a Colibri
logger compared to the cost of an approved Barograph (in 2008
dollars). I don't know the cost of a barograph 20 years ago (in there
heyday) but they could not have...

Club Glider Hangar? by
noel.wade
Hi All,
I'm doing some research for my local club, and one of the things I'd
like to determine is how to increase the usage of our "glass" ships
(Astir, Apis, and L-33 - yes I know the L-33 is metal). All are kept
stored in trailers. These 3 ships (all in great condition) sit in
their trailers,...

Grow soaring thru entertainment by
John
Added a similar comment when I filled in the SSA soaring survey.
Want to grow soaring? Market soaring as low-cost entertainment to
generate mass appeal. Develop a commercial gliding site that focuses
on giving rides only, quickly and cheaply.
Look at all the teenagers spending $5-$15 to ride...

Canopy causes cockpit fire by
Bob C
Yesterday afternoon Mark Mocho (MM Fabrication) opened
the canopy of his Pegasus to get his cell phone. By
the time he made a call to me, his soaring hat, which
was lying atop the glare shield, was smoking. The
canopy was acting like a big magnifying glass and focusing
the sun's rays onto a...

Solid state horizons by
basils27
Has anyone had any experiences, good or bad, with the various solid state
horizons on the market. Are they stable, is the response quick enough, are
they reliable.
(Probably only likely to get answers from UK pilots as the rest don't cloud
fly)

Polisher/buffer selection by
[email protected]
I've browsed the old discussions on gelcoat maintenance to learn what
I can before developing a maintenance routine of my own, for my
recently acquired V2C. One thing not yet clear to me is the best way to
use/apply 3M's Finesse-It II, which seems to be the consensus
cleaner/polisher compound: With...

How to buy a glider affordably - redux by
Andy Blackburn
FROM 11 MONTHS AGO:
Only point was that one would need to know your predictions
for what to do for, say, the past 10-20 years to know
if your 2005 prediction was good or just lucky. Stock
newsletter writers have used 'survivor bias' in market
forecasting for years - trumpet your...

Takeoff distances by
Kilo Charlie
Has anyone done calculations for takeoff distances for various density
altitudes, weights and winds for their sailplane-towplane combination?
Every powered plane POH has a table but there are none in the glider books
for obvious reasons (HP of towplane for one).
The Arizona Soaring Assn flies...

Rudder waggle by
toad
Since the rudder waggle signal was brought up in another thread, I
have a few thoughts and would like to get other opinions. I am a
glider and tow pilot for my club, so I have thought these through from
both ends.
To start with, if the tow plane gives you a wave off signal, THERE IS
TIME TO...
