"Joy of Soaring" Book by
Carl B
I have just heard that the SSA is no longer going to supply "The Joy
of Soaring". This is the book that I have recommended to ab initio
students and it has been well accepted. What are other instructors
recommending to their ab initio students? Thanks.
Carl

NATS to enable ADS-B transponder functionality for GA by
WaltWX[_2_]
The UK ATC authority, NATS, has implemented a trial with AOPA UK to test a low cost ADS-B out capability. Basically, they are allowing non-certified GPS to interface with the Mode S 1090ES which gives ADS-B out.
Some people have (illegally) tested this with their Trig and other transponders in...

Overspeed Recovery question by
[email protected]
If you inadvertently fly into the yellow range and kiss the red range, and you get into the high speed vibration, what is the best way to slow before the wings depart the glider. My sense is to reach for the spoilers and slowly extend to slow. Any opinions on that matter?

Cameras in the Cockpit by
Casey[_2_]
Just wondering how others feel about sport cameras in the cockpit. Does it help with learning or is it a distraction? Would it help in accident investigations? I've seen some speculation with accidents and if a camera had been on pilot then that could help determine if a medical emergency was...

Seminole-Lake Gliderport is Thriving by
Rich Owen[_2_]
First I would like to wish all our fathers out there a Happy Fathers Day! With as much sadness as we have had in Orlando recently it is good to celebrate a very special day.
The company sent out a press release on September 10, 2015 that announced the change in leadership at Seminole-Lake...

iPhone X and iGlide - the verdict is in. by
waremark
As owner of an Oudie IGC (also Samsung S8, Kobo Glo HD, and LX 9000) I think brightness has ceased to be a major issue. I have never encountered any conditions in which the Oudie (pointed at me) is difficult to read. What is the relevance of looking at the instrument at an angle?

Seminole Lake Accident by
[email protected]
Seminole Lake Gliderport had another accident. From what the pictures look like, the left wing of their Blanik L-23 was demolished from mid wing where it bent the leading edge all the way back to the spar.
Not sure what to make of this, if it will be covered up, or will there be an NTSB report. ...

Metric aircraft countersunk machine screws by
Charles Longley

Hard wax v/s liquid wax by
FranCP
Hi,
Can hard wax be replaced by liquid wax application? Of course silicon free, as well as other harmfull adds.
Although i've seen guys maintaining their gliders purely on applying liquid wax regularly, i guess it wont seal & protect the gelcoat as well as a good anual hard wax buffing.
¿Any...

Actual Rope Break by
Kevin Christner
I had my first "rope break" ever today. I was approximately 200-250ft above the ground. Emergency procedures were not a problem.
The Tost released for some reason. Its a nose hook so the back release mechanism could not have been the culprit. Further testing with the wheel break on the ground...

FlyWIthCE FR300 vs LXNAV Nano for OLC and Silver/Gold badge flying by
Doug[_8_]
What are the inexpensive devices for logging Silver and Gold badge flights, and how do they compare - costs / ease of use / reliability, etc ? I will be working on my Silver badge this season, using a rented glider, so I need an inexpensive, portable, and easy to use setup. It seems to me that...

Shortening PowerFLARM Brick Antenna and GPS cables by
kirk.stant
As anyone who has one can testify, the cables on the dipole and GPS antennas that come with a PowerFLARM Brick are absurdly long - you could almost mount the GPS puck on your tail!
Has anyone any experience in shortening these cables and reattaching the connectors, or is there anyone out there who...
