My aviation weblog; any others? by
David Megginson
Instead of clogging up the newsgroups, I've started a personal aviation
weblog, "Land and Hold Short". You can visit it here in a browser
http://www.megginson.com/blogs/lahso/
The best option, though, is to use the RSS to get a live feed in your...

Warm spot for IFR finish-up by
Dave Reinhart
I'm looking for suggestions for a school to do an IFR finish-up course
in December or January. I live in Massachusetts and while I don't mind
flying actual IFR there's entirely too much ice in the clouds around
here that time of year. A break from the winter chill wouldn't be bad,
either.
Dave...

Air Safety at risk by Unqualified FAA Management by
Peterpan
In 1837, Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen, wrote a wonderful fairy
tale which he titled The Emperor's New Clothes. It may be the very
first example of the power of political correctness. It is the story of
the Ruler of a distant land who was so enamored of his appearance (FAA
MANAGEMENT)...

Currently available IFR simulation software by
flying_monkey
Hello group,
I got my Instrument Rating 35 years ago, and have never been legally
current since 6 months after that date. It was the hardest rating I
ever got, even harder than CFI for airplanes or gliders. Probably the
difficulty and disuse result from the same source: I'm just a...

Next? by
Wizard of Draws
Like Cecil, I'm finishing up my IFR rating soon. That has me wondering
what's next. I don't have any desire or time to become a CFI, and I have no
intention of becoming a commercial pilot in any sense of the word. I've
thought that I might like to take a few lessons in a taildragger, but I'd
need...

Electronic review of flight? by
Al
With all of the new EFIS(Electronic flight Instrumentation Systems), has
anyone seen one that stores the flight path for replay? It looks like all of
the information is there, and this would be a tremendous help in instrument
instructing, or even "pattern review". If downloaded to a simulator on a...

IFR Practice Lesson Learned by
Matt Young
Today I learned a lesson about practicing IFR flight. I was practicing
with another member of our flying club who is a private pilot, but not
instrument rated, coming back from Rogers, AR to Fort Smith after a
pancake breakfast fly-in. Fort Smith was landing 7. My safety pilot
wanted to fly just...

GPS WEIRDNESS by
Flew my 172M today and experienced some truly bizarre GPS behavior.
On preflight my portable GPS (Garmin 296), with external antenna and
aircraft power securely attached, initialized just fine, acquired
several satellites and went right into NAV mode. After runup and right
before takeoff, it...

New Kent VOR Approach by

Anyone know why New Kent, VA's VOR approach is NA at night? And does this
prohibition apply to part 91 operators?

Looking for GCO's in New York area. by
Roy Smith
Does anybody know of any airports in the New York City area with a GCO
installed? This is the new(ish) "4 click for ATC, 6 clicks for FSS"
gizmo. It seems like something I should expose my students to.

Registering foreign planes in US by
Eclipsme
What is required to get an 'N' number for a foreign (to the US) registered
plane? Does sit matter where the plane is currently registered? Does the
plane have to be in the US currently?
Thanks,
Harvey

Hi Everybody,
I just moved to AVL and looking to get into some freelance
instructing. But of course I need access to an airplane, so if
anybody knows of one that I could instruct in, I would really
appreciate hearing about it...
Thanks,
Jonah

CFII question... by

Does a CFII have to be instrument current to give instrument instruction in VFR
conditions? Just curious...and I don't have a set-O-regs handy at the moment
otherwise I'd get off my lazy butt and look it up. Thanks...

2 pilots, 1 student pilot, 2 cameras 1 plane = 9 minute video that I
use the split screen feature of Windows Movie Maker where you can see
on the left side outside the plane and the right side what the glide
slope and ILS needles are doing. Pilot got his instrument ticket last

My First GPS Approaches by
john smith
Flew my first GPS approaches this morning...
Wow!!! Easy and precise!
I was flying a 1997 C182S with King KLN 94 GPS and UPSAT MX 20 moving
map display.
The moving map has a lot of lag during a turn, but fly the OBS and you
go right where you are supposed to.

Wanted: VFR Safety Pilot near Milwaukee, WI - Cheap flying for you by
Paul Folbrecht
I'm an instrument student looking for another pilot to fly with to allow
me to log sim instrument time. You could be another instrument student
or possibly just someone looking to build XC time.
I own a '79 Cessna 152 based at MWC (Timmerman) and I will charge my
co-pilot nothing more than 1/2...
