Master Jet Base by MICHAEL OLEARY
Does anyone know what the criteria are for designating a NAS as a master jet base? For example NAS Oceana is a master jet base but NAS Whidbey Island is a premier jet base. Any leads would be great. Google wasn't very helpful. -Moe

V-22 Prop Configuration, 3-vs-4 blades by Don McIntyre
Why did they settle on the 3-blade configuration? Wouldn't a 4-bladed system allow for a smaller footprint on the ground (or ship)? Or is there too much thrust loss involved?

Charley Noble??? by babygrand
Any of you really crusty old salts know what a Charley Noble is? I heard this term the other day from an "ancient mariner", and I hadn't heard it since 1965, brought back some real good memories. Any one care to take a crack? Also, anyone know the origin of the term? babygrand VP-22

Biggest and smallest aviators by José Herculano
I remember reading that one of VF-17s Corsair pilots was so small he had to "get creative" to be able to use enough rudder on take off. Sometimes you see a picture in which it looks like there is a contortionist gorilla in the cockpit. I know there are some size guideliness, and also know that...

747 engine takeoff power by Gord Beaman
I have a question for anyone familiar with flying the 747-200. According to news stories in the media reporting the crash of a MK Airlines 747-200 freighter at Halifax Canada awhile ago, the investigators found that the airspeed was some 55 kph low. It was noted that the engines had been operated...

Iran's torpedo by John C
Can Iran potentially put a nuclear weapon on the tip of that torpedo and take out one of our carriers? If so this poses a real threat to our ships. If the weapon is as good as they say it is. -JC
