Newbie checking in. by
914Driver
Hello all,
I didn't see anything like an "Introductions" column, so I apologize if this is out of line.
I recently purchased a modified Libelle and I love it. Wil Shuemann did the modifications in the 1980s, it's now a 40:1 ship.
I would like to gain more information on these gliders, how many...

back to my old self by
Tony[_5_]
Since moving to Kansas i've enjoyed a fairly consistent string of really good flights. Nothing against my homeland of Iowa but I had a lot of really short flights there, and not just one or two but sometimes a whole season of flying and barely making it more than Silver Distance. I did have a lot...

Trailer follies by
Bill D
FYI...
The Cobra trailer for one of the two CAP ASK-21's had developed a
problem with the left tire and had a tendency to sway. The tire was
deteriorating rapidly, wearing on one side with severe cupping. The
tires were relatively new trailer rated bias ply. Theories ranged
from a bent axle to...

Participation by
John Cochrane[_2_]
My website has a copy of the article "The National Contest
Participation Dilemma" that appeared in this month's Soaring. I put
together a lot of numbers on contest participation, and tried to get
at some causes.
A few surprises: lots of new pilots show up, but they don't stick.
Pilots do not like...

PowerFlarm Brick - Can it send GPS sentences to SN10B? by
WaltWX[_2_]
Trying to install PF Sat 06/16/12 before flight testing Sunday.
PF sends NMEA sentences by default at 19200 on the DB9 serial connector. The SN10B manual says it must receive at 4800baud. Which device needs to be set? Is there a way to change to DB9 serial output on the PF (possibly through config...

Wayteq 950 by
Eurofighter
Hello guys!
here is the problem:
I have a V7 powered by a battery. The V7 supplies power to the LX COlibri logger and to the Wayteq 950 PDA running SeeYouMobile. The PDA gets the GPS signal from the Colibri through the V7. It's a very nice setup.
During my last flight the battery died after about 3...

Oudie Cable by
Peter von Tresckow
Just curious, does anyone know the pinout for the USB connector on the
Oudie. I'm assuming that the Rs-232 signal will have to be converted to a
TTL signal using a max-232 converter or similar, but I've not found the
connector specs anywhere yet.
Thanks
Peter

Can Old People learn to fly? by
Walt Connelly
Here's an old glider pilot thinking on his feet.
An older glider pilot gets pulled over for speeding...
Older pilot: Is there a problem, Officer?
Traffic Cop: Yes sir, I'm afraid you were speeding.
Older pilot: Oh, I see.
Traffic Cop: Can I see your license please?
Older pilot: Well, I would...

Video of using up ALL of the runway on a wet aero tow by
Bruno[_2_]
This was my first time taking off with a decent amount of water (30
gallons) in my 27B at Cedar Valley, Utah. We normally take off to the
south with a longer runway but the winds from a storm shifted the
winds to the northeast (quartering crosswind). I told the tow pilot to
hold the 182 on the...
