Motion LS800 table HD failure at 14,000 feet by

In rec.aviation.misc Peter wrote:
Flash alternatives (I believe it is a 1.8" HD inside) are extremely
costly, around USD 2000 for 8GB, and I wonder how successful it would
be to put in a 4GB SD card (for which there is a slot), put all maps
on that, etc.

GPS vs ADF by
Mortimer Schnerd, RN
I actually posted this in another aviation newsgroup in which I actively post
all the time but didn't get a reply... I assume because of the crash in
Manhattan got everybody's attention. That being said, I'm still hoping for some
insight from the more recently trained.

Step Down or Track Glide slope on GPS overlay approach by
Mooney
I have just recently acquired a Garmin 430/WAAS for my Mooney 201. In
practicing approaches to familiarize myself with the unit, I went up
with an instructor to get some advice/tips. I had flown a GPS overlay
approach (NDB/GPS Runway 5 KLWM, Lawrence MA) previously in VFR
conditions and tracked the...

GNS 430 simple question by
MJC
I have just one question for you Garmin GNS 430 owners:
The 430, of course, can output both GPS and VOR data to a CDI indicator.
However, what I'm wondering, is if you have two CDI's, can the 430 run both
of them at the SAME TIME.. one CDI set to GPS output and the other CDI set
to VOR...

FAA's new Instrument Procedures Handbook/comments? by
Mitty
I got mine last week. I'm very disappointed. Although there is a lot
of valuable material in it and the graphics are very, very nice, it is
possibly the worst organized book I have ever seen. Both in the writing
and in the layout & typography. For example, three levels of unnumbered
headings...

DFAFIF airport data problems? by
Mitty
I recently got a tablet PC, HP TC1100, and a little bluetooth GPS receiver to go
with it. Rode in the back seat of an Arrow this afternoon and played for a
couple of hours with the APIC software. Lots of warts on APIC, one of which was
missing airports. I'm in the Minneapolis area and just west...

NACO Plates/How do you hold them? by
Mitty
I am curious how people hold their NACO plates on kneeboards and yoke boards.
One plate or the whole book. I have designed a little gadget that makes this
easy but have no idea whether the market wants such a gadget or not. I did;
that's why I designed it.
TIA.

Dauntless Software/Safelog/Poison Pills by
Mitty
Until recently I have been quite a fan of Dauntless Software's products, having
used both their written test prep packages and their Safelog product. I have
recommended them here.
All good things come to an end, however. Beginning in May, the "free" Safelog
upgrades come with a poison pill....

Extra Hold Depicted on Plate? by
Mitty
We are getting a brand new ILS 26 at KANE and I just downloaded the plate. The
miss is what I expected to see and is a hold at the GEP "Gopher" VOR a few miles
to the west. But there is also a hold depicted at the PNM NDB, which is a long
ways away. That hold is not mentioned on the plate.
I...

Garmin G1000 ASA/King? by
Mitty
Has anyone compared the training discs from ASA and King? Recommendations? I
am going to check out in a C182T/G1000 and may want to buy one of these. (I
have seen the Sporty's disc -- it is tourist stuff.)

Emergency Procedures by

I was checking out in a Civil Air Patrol 182T the other day and the
check airman pulled the power on me. No big deal, but then he
demonstrated how the glide improved when the propeller was pulled to
low RPM. No one had ever showed that to me before.
Question is:
In retrospect it seems...

IFR/Flight Following -- ATC Preferences? by
Mitty
Departing cross country out of the Minneapolis area in severe clear, I will
usually ask for either flight following or will file. I depart from KMIC, which
is under the 4000 foot shelf of the MSP bravo airspace.
For example, Friday I am going from KMIC to KGPZ, which is a couple hundred
miles to...

Lycoming Carb Heat by
Mitty
Gents,
Though this is not strictly an IFR question, I am pretty sure that you have
opinions that I would like to get.
Subject is Lycoming O-360 engines. I have flown behind a number of them in
Pipers and the POH instruction on carb heat is always "as required."
Specifically there is no...
