Charted Visual Flight Procedures by
Scott Draper
An airline pilot of my acquaintance related about accepting a charted
visual flight procedure into Reno, part of which involves intercepting
a localizer course. He said they were IMC at the time.
My understanding is that the aircraft must reporting seeing a landmark
or preceding aircraft before...

Circle to land question by
A Lieberman
Last week, I was doing approaches in actual IMC, and returning back to MBO
(Madison, MS), I broke out right at minimum ceilings 4.8 miles DME from the
JAN VOR. Ceilings were just above 900 feet. Missed minimums are 5 DME an
900 feet ceilings (NOTAM raised it from 860 to 900).
The approach takes...

Duats route filing - need help via radials by
[email protected]
I've been trying to use duats to file flight plans. The preferred
route from PHL to Toronto CYYZ is ptw, then ptw 320 deg radial to
intercept J64 RAV etc. I've tried various formats to enter this
radial to a jet route format, but duats doesn't seem to accept it.
Any one able to make this type of...

Twin or a fast single for rent in the New York city area? by
Alexis Yushin
Hi,
Sorry for posting it here, but living in Europe its really not that easy
to find a suitable aircraft for rent in the USA. I'm looking for a twin
or a fast single to rent beginning of June in the New York City area to
fly it down to Florida and back in the course of one and half weeks. I
will...

Logging Right Seat Time by
CloudyIFR
I'm a Part 135 pilot and we're starting to get a lot of missions that
are two pilot crews. These are in airplanes that don't require a SIC
as the AutoPilots work, we're not flying over 8 hours and it's not
required by the Type certificate.
I'm a Captain in all the planes but move to the right...

FAA shares blame also by
SolarSapien
So, ah, where was FAA Air Traffic control during this
debacle??? Real warm fuzzy knowing a 150 can just wander in
the most restricted airspace on Earth with no bells and
whistles before it was 3 miles away from the White House. It
should have been noticed 60 miles out not 3.
Got to be an Air...

Searchable Archive of This Newsgroup? by
O. Sami Saydjari
I am sure this has been asked a hundred times, but can someone point me
to a website that has a searchable archive of this newsgroup? I posted
something last year (I think)...either here or on
rec.aviation.owning...dealing with considering buying my next airplane.
There were some really great...

How do you leave this airport IMC? by
Journeyman
On the way to Pinckneyville last weekend, I stopped at Jimmy Stewart
Field, Indiana, PA. KIDI. I had to shoot the GPS 28 approach with
a cirle to land 10. There's a nice transition off the Revloc VOR.
Since we had a late start, we had planned to stop there for the night,
but by the time we left...

Class B bust my fault or the controllers ? by
Antoņio
Today I flew into KBFI (Boeing field) which is class D and has
extentions that underlie the Class B that require close attention to
altitudes and headings so as to stay clear. Today the winds were
favoring 31L (and 31R) and I came in from the west on the Vashon
approach--the most common approach...

Question on Aivdyne / Garmin Integrated Avionics Packages by
Jon
I'm trying to understand how capable the new breed of integrated
avionics suites are (Aviyne Eclipse, Garmin G1000), and read somewhere
that although these systems are very capable, they don't have the
"mission capabilities" of a Proline 21. I.e., the Eclipse and Garmin
systems are ok for...

With LAAS in limbo, FAA buys more ILSs

The FAA is expected to announce a major ILS contract award within the
next 90 days, according to agency insiders. As currently written, the
contract will call for the purchase and installation of as many as 615
instrument landing systems...

currency question by
[email protected]
Have you ever "made up" an approach to a nonexistent airport for the
purposes of training or currency? I mean, to pick a space in the
boonies, and then use nearby navaids to fashion a homemade approach to
an imaginary runway. Some instructors will do this.
Now, I was wondering, is there any way...

Middle Marker minimums by
S Herman
The LOC-D approach for SAN DIEGO/GILLESPIE FIELD (SEE) shows different
minimums for "GRIGG FM". There is an ident code shown for GRIGG, but
no frequency. Is the dot-dash-dot ident just the generic MM ident? I
can't find "GRIGG" listed as an airspace fix at airnav.com. Are the
higher minimums to be...

430 Question by
smf
This has probably been discussed before but here goes.
Why is it that some of the published DP's aren't in the data base? Such as
the south fla. area. FLL, FXE and HWO don't have any dp's in the data base.
Mia has 2 but there are several more for the area.
thanks

IFR along Chicago lakefront by
paul kgyy
I raised a question about this a while back. V7 runs a little farther
offshore than I'm comfortable with in my single. I recently filed V7
from northern WI south to Gary, IN. When I got to Milwaukee, ATC
started to vector me, steering me much closer to land than the filed
route. I hadn't asked...
