Mystery lines on NY VFR terminal chart by
Ron Garret
The Coney Island crash got me to dig out my NY VFR terminal chart (not
used much as I live in LA) and there's an odd thing on it that I've not
seen before. There are five darkish blue lines radiating out to the
edge of the chart from the boundary of the class B airspace on the LGA
071 142 231 270...

San Fernando Valley by
xxx
It looks like I'll be moving to the San Fernando Valley.
I don't know exactly where I'll be living but I expect to
have reasonable access to VNY, WHB and BUR. I'm looking for
recommendations, postive or negative, for airports, FBO's,
clubs, etc. I'm a private pilot with no professional...

Ignition switch, what happen when Left or Right is selected by
Martin B
Hello,
Here is my question:
On regular aircrafts, like C150, C172, PA28, when we perform the
magneto check where we select Left, than Right, while looking for RPM
drop... what is the switch doing?
When we select Left or Right, do we short that particular magneto or
are we shorting the other one?

Help with ANR Headphones by
[email protected]
Hello everyone.
I have been flying with a regular headphone (passive noise reduction)
and have been considering buying an ANR headphone as soon as I get my
private license.
I would like to ask what types of tips people who have used them have
and also whether I will really have to spend $500+ for...

PIREP: Chevy American Revolution 400, Richmond, VA by
John T
I happened to be in the office of a co-worker when he mentioned he had a
couple extra tickets to this year's Chevrolet American Revolution 400 NASCAR
race in Richmond, VA. Long story short: I saw an excuse to go flying while
introducing my teenage son to professional auto racing.
We met in...

Why turbo normalizer? by
Robert M. Gary
This started on a Mooney list. I cannot for the life of me (and an
engineering degree) figure out why a turbo normalizer would be any
easier on an engine than a regular turbo. Is this just marketing crap
from the turbo normalizer people? Turbo'd engines cost more to run
because of the increased...

Anyone got a PIREP on Seattle's Museum of Flight? by
Jay Honeck
We're flying to Seattle this weekend aboard the "executive mail tube,"
sadly. Gotta be at my nephew's wedding, and just can't trust that the
weather will cooperate enough for us to fly Atlas over the mountains on a
schedule.
(Although we just had husband & wife guests at the inn who were flying...

Could training at a towered airport have prevented the ADIZ bust by
airman
The CNN pilot-reporter, Miles O'Brien, made a good point. These guys took
off from an uncontrolled airfield, implying that they were not adept with
ordinary ATC as would pilots be who were trained or who are resident at a
Class D or C towered field. I remember how difficult it was to train at...

Tips on Flying to Dulles by
Jay Honeck
In June we are planning to fly to Washington Dulles International (IAD) to
participate in Margy Natalie's "Reach for the Stars: Become a Pilot" Family
Day at the National Air & Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy facility. (Yes, we're
going to be a museum piece for the day. Think: Disney...

Skip the IR rating and go straight to commercial and CFI? by
[email protected]
I need some opinions on this possible scenario
Here is my situation....
I have a full time day job making good money, which I am not wanting to
leaving. I am a private pilot with 143.8 total hours (94.1 PIC) and I
am wanting to teach the PPSEL rating as a CFI for additional income.
My thinking...

Close encounter with a Blackhawk today by

This afternoon while out flying I had a close encounter with a Blackhawk
8 miles from the White House.
I had another close encounter with a Huey, several news copters, a
police copter, a 747, several Traffic Cessna's.
We just waved as we passed. ;-)
Ok now that I have your attention..... I fly one...

DC pilots (update) by
Hilton
Hi,
To summarize:
- PIC was ASEL (not a CFI etc etc)
- No WX briefing
- Passenger was a student pilot (essentially a passenger for the flight)
- PIC froze
- Student took over and landed
- Came very close to being shot down
- PIC will have his certificate revoked

Narrow Runways by

What's the narrowest runway you've ever used? At what runway width are you
comfortable? Among other things, I had an interesting experience yesterday
with a runway that was far narrower than any I'd used before...
We had gone to Dallas for Mother's day, and returned to Atlanta yesterday in
my...

coast of Korea, then next day up to Yang Yang airport near Seoul. The
Korean press & TV were overjoyed (photos at www.kirkflyingvet.com).
