C182 Glass Panel by Scott Schluer
I've got a question about the glass panel displays in the C182 (or any other aircraft for that matter). I was reading this month's edition of AOPA Pilot magazine and the cover story is the C182T and the new glass panel displays Cessna decided to incorporate and it got me thinking. My question is:...

O2 Concentrator instead of O2 tank by tom
Does anyone use an oxygen concentrator to supply pilot and passengers in a light plane flying over 14000 feet? A quick google did not turn up anything but home units and a recent ruling that they can be used on commercial airlines, but I did not find anything about their use on private...

Contrails by Darkwing
Is there a certain speed an aircraft must be going for contrails to form? I have never seen a 172 with contrails but as a kid I used to go to Road America with my dad and watch the (then CART Indycars) and in the morning you could see the contrails off the rear wings, so that tells me it has...

Three take offs = three landings at Newton MS and Madison MS - Video by [email protected]
In this video in 3 minutes you will have endured 3 takes offs and 3 landings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCYjZ-XkPTk Short field relative to pilot experiences I guess. Figured to go to Newton and work on a 3000 runway with large trees on the arrival end. Only thing I can think that triggered...

Comanche accident averted last evening by [email protected]
Just another day of flying in the bay area yesterday - or so I thought. It was past 7:45 pm. Beautiful evening sunset. Winds 330@12. No gusts. No turbulence. I was on my third touch and go. A Comanche was inbound and cleared to land on RWY31. I was cleared for the option (number two) and requested...

Aircraft as mobile homes by Mxsmanic
I was thinking today, first about independent truck drivers, then about those people who sell (almost) all they own and buy a huge RV. In the case of truck drivers, they often have expensive, fancy rigs complete with bed, television, and other amenities that make their trucks a kind of home away...

Aviation Movies? by Dave Burton
Here is you chance to suggest movies to show at a fly-in. I'd appreciate any suggestions for newer movies, available on DVD or video tape. We've seen all the oldies. I've got to stick to PG films for the most part since this will be visible to the CAP cadets and anyone else still up after dark. ...

Perfect loop by More_Flaps
My aerobatic traing is going very well, I'm having all the fun I thought it should provide. So far I haven't messed up a manouver but I'm nagged by the thought: How can I tell if my loops are perfect circles? At present I go to full power at the vertical phase and over the top but then throttle...

Crosswind components by James L. Freeman
Can someone offer a non-mathematical EXPLANATION (as opposed to DESCRIPTION) of why the speed of headwind and crosswind components of a wind add up to more than the speed of the wind? Thanks.

It seems to be a reasonably well-kept secret, even in Canada, that we finally have an on-line version of Canadian Airport diagrams, updated every 56 days. http://www.navcanada.ca/ContentDefinitionFiles/Publications/AeronauticalInfoProducts/pdf/CAMS/CAMS_current_en.pdf This is essentially the...

Non-federal towers by Kyle Boatright
It means that the controllers are employed by the local municipality... "jacjohn" wrote in message ... Ok... With all the talk of "non-federal" towers, I got to thinking. What exactly does that mean to us pilots?

"Rescue" flight, PPL by Joe Johnson
Last week, as I returned to my rental FBO after an evening local flight, the clerk on duty said an instructor and his student were stuck at an airport about 40 minutes away. I spoke to the instructor on the phone and I agreed to fly up and bring them back. He mentioned that, of course, I...

Flying a 172 with Autopilot? by VE5JL
Is there any one here flying a 172 using an autopilot? I think on longer flights (3+ hours) and autopilot would be an advantage, however there are some in the old school that think it is not necessary. I'd like some opinions. thx Joe
