TSA changes twelve-five rule! by
Capt.Doug
The TSA has changed the wording in it's regs to reflect reality. Once in a
while a smart person infiltrates Washington DC. I hope they don't catch the
perp.
After 9/11, any operator with aircraft of 12,500 pounds or more had to
comply with a burdensome security program. Many, many aircraft have a...

Dutch Roll by
SelwayKid
So what is your understanding of a Dutch Roll? It is interesting to me
the various understandings of this manuever, how it is performed and
its origins.
I've got my own that I was taught by a CFI over 45 years ago and have
taught to virtually every student I've had over the years,...

4800nm trip complete! by
SeeAndAvoid
Hey all,
Like it says on Jays site I'm trying to land at all 50 states by age 40.
A few days ago I finished a 4,800nm trip that leaves me with just
4 to go. Logged 44.6 hours and 32 touch&go's/landings, maybe
you've been to or are familiar with some of them:
LRJ-Lemars, IA / MJQ-Jackson, MN /...

Beacon Only Radar by
John R
A few years ago, I remember the FAA saying that primary radar
would be eventually phased out at many enroute radar sites. AOPA
was opposed to this. A number of beacon only radar sites are in
place today, and they would become more prevalent.
In the wake of terrorism concerns, is this proposal...

Any suggestions: Winnipeg/Edmonton to Seattle? by
Journeyman
I'm planning to on making a trip from Long Island Sound to Puget Sound
(and back) later this year. We're expecting to do a side trip enroute to
Winnipeg and/or Edmonton.
Any suggestions on routing across the mountains to Spokane? From there, I
can just take the I-90 across Snoqualmie...

DC ADIZ by
G.R. Patterson III
I was listening to NPR coverage of the 9/11 recap meetings the other day. One of the
senior military people there went on record that "nobody is arguing anymore that the
Washington ADIZ isn't necessary." He regards this as a good thing.

Renting in Toronto by
Royce Brown
Going to Toronto and Niagra Falls with my daughter on vacation in late
July. Was thinking about finding a local airport that might rent a plane
(guessing an instructor would have to tag along) for a couple hours for
some sightseeing.
Anyone done any flying in this area and can reccomend someone...

FBO at TOA by
RevDMV
I'm flying in for a meeting and didn't see any obvious choices. Just
need the usual rental car, fuel, etc.
I did see and read about about the serious noise restrictions.

Cherokee 180 from Bay Area to Bishop (KBIH) ? by
Dave Jacobowitz
I'm thinking of taking myself and three others (littlish people) to
Bishop next weekend in a Cherokee 180.
I've limited mountain flying experience, but have had an intructor
checkout for it and have read a few books on the subject.
My assessment is that the aircraft's service ceiling (13,700,...

Landing patterns by
m pautz
There seems to be a discrepancy between glider landing patterns and
power landing patterns. There is a discussion on the soaring news group
about our 30-45 degree turns vs the power shallow banked turns. The
reason for our bank angle is because we fly close-in/tight patterns.
I can’t provide...

Depression and despair rule the roost tonight in Iowa City.
After all the meetings attended, and all the editorials rebutted, and all
the interviews granted, and all the letters written -- our City Council
called a sudden, surprise joint meeting with our Airport Commission tonight,
and announced...
