Interesting approach snafu. by
Roy Smith
I saw an approach mistake the other day that I've never seen before. We
were flying the VOR-A @ 12N (http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0503/05026VA.PDF)
and were a little off course (in good VFR conditions). My student looked
up at about the right time, saw a runway, and went for it. Unfortunately,
it...

Interesting Departure Procedu MRB Trixy Two by
Richard Kaplan
I came across an interesting IFR Departure Procedure recently during some
training and I wonder if anyone has flown it before and/or if anyone else
has any comments.
For those who are AOPA members, here is a link to the MRB (Martinsburg WV)
Trixy Two...

Interesting experience yesterday by
Paul Folbrecht
Did a short trip yesterday from MWC to OSH with the gf, just to go,
about 3PM. Was planning on cruising at 3 to avoid ice in the clouds,
which were not far about that at all. Briefer tells me there's an
inversion aloft, and the freezing level is at NINER. Cool, great!
Filed for 4, planning on...

Interesting use of cell phone to command a sharp roll to the right! by
Peter Bondar
http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/srg_gad_gasil4of2003.pdf
Highlights the case where a KAP140 equipped plane went a bit wobbly which
was caused by a cell phone carried by a passenger.
Personally I thought it was all rubbish till now, I guess time to take a
different view.
Makes you think when you are...

Intersting tidbit about the Miami seaplane crash and fuel reserves by
xyzzy
from: http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/12/19/miami.crash.ap/
"One of its airplanes was hijacked to Cuba in 1974. Since then, the
company has had a policy of not carrying enough fuel to reach Havana."
Now Havana is not that far from Miami. I have a hard time believing
they would be within legal IFR (or...

Inventing a GPS waypoint for a DP? by
Roy Smith
The ODP out of MMK for runway 36 reads, "climbing left turn to 1800 via
325 bearing from MMK NDB before proceeding on course".
It seems to me that the easiest way to fly that with a GPS would be to
create a user waypoint which is a 325 bearing, 20 (or whatever) mile
offset from MMK NDB and insert...

iPad + Foreflight Review by
Dane Spearing[_3_]
A few months back, I bought an iPad with the intent of using it in
flight for maps, approach plates, and as a supplemental nav. to my GNS
430. I finally got the opportunity to play with it today while doing
some hood work to see how well it performs in-flight, and I must say, I
am very...

IPC G1000 by
[email protected]
I'm in the midst of doing two things....
1)Becoming instrument recurrent. (Steam guage airplanes)
2)Getting checked out in a G1000 182.
I'm planning to do the IPC in the Steam guage airplane with some additional instrument work in the G1000.
My real question is how would you do the partial...

IPC in a Simulator? Phoenix area.. by
Anonymous
I am looking for a flight school in the Phoenix area that can give me
an IPC (or let me log approaches for currency) in a simulator. Sim
time just seems so much more efficient than taking the real thing out
in CAVU and putting a hood on... Does anyone know of such a place?
Please post your...

IPC Preperation by
Jeffrey
Greetings all;
What do you recommend for preparation for an Instrument Proficiency Check?
Is there any written or video material that is specifically geared for this,
or is the original IFR training material better?
Thanks for any insight!

After reading and listening to the ATC clip posted about this
incident, especially regarding picking up the weather on the pilot's
iPhone, a question just came to mind. With the new iPhone...

iPhone or iPad VFR GPS by
A L
I am hesitating between buying the iPhone 4 and the iPad (or else?) to
use as a VFR GPS. One of the attractive feature of the iPad is the
larger screen but it is also one of the drawback... Apparently the
iPhone has an internal Gyroscope which the iPad does not have (might be
added on the iPad...

iPhone weather, approach charts, A/FD, etc... by
Hilton
Hi,
In addition to our WingX products for Windows Mobile and BlackBerry, we put
together a free iPhone web app. Feel free to use, share, etc. Let me know
how we can improve it. We'll be adding some more weather images, but I
think that it is pretty useful at this point. Point your iPhone to...

IR checkride story! by
Guy Elden Jr.
Ok, time for me to fill y'all in on today's adventure... my IR checkride!
First, let me thank all of those (in rec.aviation.student at least!) who
have posted their PPL checkride stories. I've read a few over the past week
or so, and they helped calm me down quite a bit in preparation for today....

IR training in the US for European pilot by
Frode Berg
Hi!
Sorry if this has been beaten to death already.....
I am going to get an instrument rating soon, and are considering my options.
Has anyone here any knowledge about taking an IR couorse in the US and
converting it to a JAR license in Europe?
What is involved?

IR without actual IMC by
Iain Wilson
Anyone IR without having actually flown in IMC? My checkride is around the
corner and I've no actual IFR yet. I'm itching to experience it but the
damned weather isn't co-operating (seemed the same way with the PPL!).

IR written Primary/Secondary instrument questions by
Jeremy
I'm studying for my written and having an awful time with the
questions dealing with primary/secondary instruments for
pitch/bank/power during various phases of flight. The distinctions
appear to be senseless hair splitting, and I'm getting them mostly
wrong in the practice tests. Some of this is...

Is an IPC a substitute for 6 approaches? by
Ben Jackson
The way I read 61.57(d) (the requirement for an IPC), it's just an extra
requirement that kicks in under certain circumstances. It's not a subpart
of 61.57(c) (6 approaches etc in 6 months), and (c) does not have any
exceptions related to (d).
So if an IPC is essentially a checkride, it could be...

Is an LDA w/GS a "Precision" approach? by
[email protected]
FAA Ops Specs for air carriers have a middle column for types of approved approaches called “APV” - Approaches with Vertical Guidance, LDA-GS is listed in this column and not under Precision Approach. I’d give that answer in an interview, even though Instrument ACS would allow it to be...
