Q:VXA-210 Handheld by Frank Ivo Streckebein
Hello to the group ! Does anybody use the VertexStandard Pilot VXA-210? My question: The manual says that the led on top of the unit will glow green if it is receiving a carrier and the color will change to red when transmitting. With my handheld the led is only glowing green when receiving; the...

Garmin GPSmap 196 on 172 Yoke by Otto Braasch
Hi, Planning to put a GPSmap 196 for backup in my Cessna 172 I would like to know whether somebody has mounted a 196 on the 172 yoke? May I learn about the mounting used - original Garmin or OEM hardware like RAM? Any drawbacks or pros experienced with either gear? Otto Braasch (EDML)

Yellow tags by Mike Z.
I am still filtering out all the usual paperwork that comes with a previously loved airplane. You know, the usual receipts for 12 new batteries dating back to WWII etc. Anyway, there are lots of yellow tags stapled in the logs and almost as many in various envelopes. I was scanning the logs onto...

New 172S by Rob Thomas
Does anyone have any recent experience with purchasing a new 172S? I'd like to know if there's any room for negotiation on the price of the aircraft from the list price. Considering that Cessna has decreased production, I'm beginning to think they will force a demand in the marketplace. I...

Radiotelephone permit for Canada by PaulH
The AOPA Canada briefing summary says a Radiotelephone Operator's permit is required for flight into Canada. I did some checking at the FCC website and it appears that the cost for this piece of paper is $100. Or am I looking at the wrong piece of paper. Flying is admittedly expensive, but this...

How can a compass suddenly go out by 20 degrees? by Bob Chilcoat
Recently one of my partners reported that the compass (standard whiskey compass, not a vertical card) on our Archer was reading 20-25 degrees off of runway heading at departure. Today a new partner was up with an instructor for his sign off and reported the same thing. I hadn't noticed, but we...

AIRNAV not publishing fuel prices... by Victor
.... of new FBOs. Apparently they will only publish prices for FBOs that have a subscription with them. Of course they own the web site so it is their choice to do whatever they like. But it didn't use to be this way. Previously AIRNAV would encourage reporting fuel prices on all airports free of...

Vacuun pump failed? by RAM
Today noticed the vacuum gauge starting to inch upward. Climbed from 5.0 to almost 8.0 in 5 minutes. DG and AI acting normal the whole time. Then....dropped to zero and the gyros obviously quit. I only have experienced 1 vacuum pump failure before and it just dropped to zero without climbing first....

headset plug repair by Michael C Finke
A simple question that I'm sure has been addressed in the past: The wires on my old Pilot headset are broken at both plugs. Can I just take this in to Radio Shack and expect them to sell me the correct plugs so I can cut and reattach? or do I need to be looking for something special? And if so,...

Garmin GTX 330 Transponder by PaulaJay1
I'm thinking of adding the GTX 330 transponder to get traffic on my 430. Has anyone done this and is it worth the price(what did it cost)? I fly mostly in the eastern US and believe that there is pretty good coverage here. Chuck

Engine swap..... maybe a stupid question by JD Butler
Totally aside from the technical/mechanical side of things.......
