Incredible Lifting Experience by
Jim Vincent
In this video, the guy is kiteboarding on the water. Normally when jumping,
the max is about 50'. He gets caught in a thermal and ends up a few hundred
feet up. Quite remarkable that he survived.

Youth Members in your (US) Club by
Ulrich Neumann
Hi all,
I need your input on an issue that has led to an ongoing, heated
debate ever since my son joined our soaring club at age 14. He begun
taking lessons and soloed during a youth soaring camp organized by
another club this summer. A small but vocal group of members are
stricktly against youth-...

Santa's Check Ride by

Santa Claus, like all pilots, gets regular visits from the Federal Aviation
Administration, and the FAA examiner arrived last week for the pre-Christmas
flight check.
In preparation, Santa had the elves wash the sled and bathe all the reindeer.
Santa got his logbook out and made sure all his...

WTB: 1-34 Horizontal Stabilizer by
Jeremy Zawodny
Our club's 1-34 (which we've owned since new) recently lost half the
elevator when a wood piece broke on its open trailer. If anyone knows
of a damaged 1-34 with an intact horizontal stabilizer, I'd love to hear
about it.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Soaring in the Chicago area in November by
Gordon Schubert
I'll be staying in Chicago from Nov 5th to 8th (including
the week-end).
Is there any chance of soarable weather or would it
be the same as
northern Europe ?
If yes, could anyone recommend a place where I could
take a ride in a
two-seater (I have a valid French license but I don't

Can a Private Pilot tow gliders and get paid? by
BTIZ
I'll agree that a Private Pilot cannot be compensated monetarily for towing
services rendered, he may log PIC time towards additional ratings while
towing.
I'll also agree that 61.113 is very confusing.. but para (g) says he can act
as PIC, it does not say be can be compensated.
The insurance...

Why does the Sporting code require by
stephanevdv
Let's say for some reason I had stored in the FR three different
declarations made on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
As far as I know, it is impossible to have different declarations in
one FR! What you can have is different flight plans, tasks or whatever
you wish to call them. But the only...

BRAKE FLUID by
Ventus B
The maintenance manual for my ASW 20C glider says to be sure to only
use "mineral oil" based brake fluid for the hydraulic brake system.
As far as I can tell, DOT 3 and DOT 4 brake fluids are glycol based,
and DOT 5 is silicone based according to my 15 minutes of research on
the internet. The...

First timer wants soaring description by
TravelMan
I'll be taking my first glider ride this week (not soaring, just
gliding) and was wanting a description of what to expect. I've never
flown in anything but a passenger jet, so that's my only frame of
reference. We'll be using an ASK 21 model. I've been told gliding is
like floating down with no...

Why does the Sporting code require "Goal" to be a finish point??? by
Mark Zivley
If you want to make a flight to a "goal" the sporting code says that the
"goal" is a "finish point" and the definition of "finish point is
defined as the end of the flight (for simplicity). Either a landing, a
declared "finish point", or engine start location.
My question is why does the goal...
