Missing flight plans by
Paul kgyy
Twice in 2 days I've filed VFR flight plans only to have FSS unable to
find them when I called on radio after takeoff. One was filed through
Duats at 9PM for noon next day (and left at noon). The other was filed
with a briefer at Terre Haute at 10PM for 8AM next day (and left on
time).
In both...

Missing oil? by
Greg Copeland
I'm posting on behalf of my father. My father has been flying a friend's
older 172. The 172 was recently flown on a 8-hour round trip. During this
trip, the plan burned 3-quarts of oil. On return, a compression check was
performed. All came back with 75's or better. A check for
leaks did...

mitchell autopilot by
dave
Hello, I have a 59 Bellanca Cruisemaster that has a Mitchell Executive
autopilot in it. To engage the autopilot, you push in a knob on the
left side of the panel just left of the vsi and below the ai. When
engaged it would roll left at about a 20 degree bank, so I adjusted
the autopilot trim knob...

mixing 80 and 100 and autogas...? by
R. Wubben
Reviewing some of the old posts on rec.aviation.owning, it appears
that the conventional wisdom is that mixing of the gases is ok.
What I foresee is that I can get 80 at my home field, but will need to
top off or completely fill up with 100LL as I go along. Is this truly
ok?
Are people still...

Mixture control bottoms-out against the firewall? by
Mark Hansen
I have a maintenance question.
I read somewhere that the mixture control should not bottom-out against
the firewall when full rich, as the pilot would not be able to tell if
the full-rich position was achieved, or if the knob just hit the firewall
stop.
However, I'm wondering if this is just a...

Mixture--science vs witchcraft? by
Douglas Paterson
Still getting to know my new baby (1990 TB-20, normally aspirated 250hp
Lycoming IO-540). I imagine my question here must apply to most non-turbo,
non-FADEC pistons (though I gather there's some sort of altitude compensator
on some airplanes' engines?). I live in Colorado, which means routine...

Mode C Indication by
Jeff
In everyone's observation, what is the typical difference between the
indicated altimeter reading with current pressure setting and the altitude
reported by mode c transponder. It seems mine always has a discrepancy of
100', sometimes 200' compared to what ATC shows.
Just wondering if it needs...

mode c intermittent by
skyav8r
Howdy,
I have an Aeromech 8140B20 encoding altimeter with a KT76 transponder. Mode C is intermittent with ATC. Is it more than likely this is an altimeter problem or transponder problem? Sometimes when it is not reporting, i cycle the transponder off then back on and it starts reporting again....

Mode C is reading high.... by
Dico
Hello,
I've noticed during a flight the other day to Columbus that our Mode C
was reading high... by about 250 feet. The altimeter seems to be
indicating fine as on the ground, with the correct altimeter setting,
it shows the correct altitude. As well, flying the ILS, i make a habit
to check the...

Mode S to become requirement? by
Bob Chilcoat
There has been talk of making Mode S a requirement sometime in the future.
Our transponder is giving trouble again. Does it make any sense to consider
putting in a Mode S transponder now, if we have to replace ours? We can get
a yellow-tagged Mode C transponder or even a new exchange from...

Mode S Transponders - Can ATC tell the difference? by
Doodybutch
I am the proud owner of a new $5000.00 mode S transponder. I just took my
first long trip with it, and I began to wonder if ATC sees any difference on
their radar screen with Mode S. As you know, Mode S transmits your aircraft
ID as well as your assigned code and altitude.
I did notice that...

Mode-S for spam cans? by
Roy Smith
My club has started thinking about putting Mode-S transponders in our
aircraft (3 Archers, 2 Arrows, 2 Bonanzas), to take advantage of traffic
advisory information.
Does anybody here have Mode-S in their plane now? Do you make use of
the traffic info? How well does it work? How easy is it to...

Mogas and microbial growth by
Economic Girly Man
Folks,
I have a C-182 with an auto-fuel STC, which I've been operating on Mogas
(along with an occasional fill of 100LL) for several years. Mogas being
unavailable at my home airport, I use a pair of 6 gallon Gerry cans
(plastic) to transport the fuel from a local gas station to...

MoGas Long Term Test: 5000 gallons and counting... by
Jay Honeck
Yesterday I noticed that we had pumped more than 5000 gallons of mogas
through the Mighty Grape. This represents something like 60 complete fills
(our plane has four gas tanks, totaling 84 gallons), and around 350 hours of
flight time over the last 2.5 years.

MoGas Tips, Tricks, Concerns, How To by
Al Gilson
We have a 1964 Cessna 172E with a Continental 0-300D. It has the
AutoGas STC, but we've never used anything but 100LL. We've had some
lead deposits and a stuck valve last spring.
With the rising cost of 100LL at our airport, I'm looking at starting to
use 87 Unleaded auto gas.
Is there a...

This was a little fun quiz that was circulated on a type specific

with George, you know he backs everything up with HARD DATA obtained
from his own research. In a...

molding plexiglas websites? by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I'm want to replace the windows in my airplane and want to make my own.
I've got an oven, piece of plexiglas and the old window.
Are there any good websites with information on how to do this without
killing myself?
Thanks
