Next Time I Do Fabric Work on an Airplane by
Larry Smith
I'll use Airtech, not Stits, now known as Polyfiber. The latter is a great
process, don't get me wrong. It's just that Airtech is better, simpler,
easier and produces superior results. *And* it lasts and lasts. Take a
look at a 10- or 15-year-old Airtech cover and you'll see why.
As for...

JB Weld or Hi Temp RTV silicone oil crack fix. by
Paul Lee
The Franklin engine I rebuilt came with an odd ball cast aluminum oil
pan with a big shaft access hole in back. May have been a helicopter
engine oil pan. I put a disc there and welded it shut (from outside).
But the weld is dripping some oil especially when hot. I
am planing to take out the oil...

Owner's Manual Format by
RST Engineering
Printing costs have been on a steady exponential increase, following right
along with energy costs associated with creating paper from trees, soybean
prices for ink, and all the rest of the process involved with creating paper
manuals.
On the other hand, the price of optical media (DVD and...

Elegant engineering by
Bob Chilcoat
In the latest Air & Space magazine is a surprisingly technical article on
the spar problems on the T-34 Mentors. It shows how Mentor wings (and I
presume Bonanza and many other Beech wings) are assembled. Instead of being
riveted completely together they are in three main pieces. (1) A main...

removing old, dried, masking tape by
Michael Horowitz
Someone used masking tape many years ago to cover some screwheads on
my leading edge. Pulling it off only gives me strips of masking tape.
Any suggestions on how to remove this stuff? - Mike

"Must Have" Tools for Christmas
DRILL PRESS: A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal
bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings
your beer across the room, splattering it against that freshly painted
airplane part you were drying.

Would you install lights? by
Lou
I'm getting close to covering my wings. I don't currently fly at night
and could even say that I have no intention on flying at night.
However I had no intention on getting married either. Would anyone
install lights anyway or just limit yourself to flying in the
daylight.

Fowler flaps? by
TJ400
I am presently in the process of converting a PA-22 to a Sportsman 2+2.
Plans call for new wings to be buillt from scratch and I am
considering the use of Fowler flaps rather than conventional for
greater lift, reduced stall speed, steeper landing approach and better
angle of attack/ visibility...

Boom Mic - Just Mic - Help? by
Gary G
I have designed and built a headphone adapter/transformer
for some custom-molded in-ear headphones that offer
excellent noise isolation (passive).
I actually use them as a musician.
In the plane, they sound very nice and are quite comfortable.
So - what I want is a boom mic.
I've actually...

HKS 700E Engine Reviews? by
acepilot
Is anybody on the list using the two cylinder (4-stroke) HKS 700E
engine? It's about the perfect size for an upcoming project (Georgias
Special) and I'm wondering about its reliability, toughness, etc.
compared to say a 1/2 or full VW. The original Georgias used 28 HP, so
a 1/2 VW would work and...
