Daddy! What did you do?!!! by
Steve Schneider
One of the advantages of flying is that you can pack so much more into
your weekends. Last weekend was a typically busy one for us. We had
plenty to do around the house, I had to help a neighbor move, and we had
a dinner to help with at the Fallbrook Air Park (L18) for some 80 odd
people -- oh,...

insurance for Sport Pilots! by
Cub Driver
I always figured that the test on the new Sport Pilot rules would be
how the new category would be treated by insurance companies. After
all, if I can't get insurance, I can't rent the Cub! Here's the
answer, which also indirectly addresses the question of how much
safety we're giving up by...

New demands for more GA security by
C J Campbell
From an AP article today:
"Officials said that the thousands of general aviation airports - which host
recreational planes, business jets, helicopters and other kinds of
noncommercial aircraft - must all have security measures that are equivalent
to TSA mandates at commercial airports."
It would...

A question from a lurker by
Richard
I am not a pilot but have the greatest respect for those you are.
Most here wish to share their pleasure with non-pilots and I thank you for
your posts. But some wish to maintain an elitist group. Perhaps that elitist
behaviour reduces the support you may have from non-pilot members of the...

New Plan -- Going to Kill Devil Hills by
Jay Honeck
Looking at the prog charts for the next several days, Texas looks like
a mess. Moderate to heavy rains, thunderstorms, yuck. Our plan to
head south on Sunday is scrubbed.
So, we're looking at heading to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina instead.
The progs look great for at least three or four days, and...

Gas Theft Nashua (ASH) by
Hank Rausch
Flew into Nashua last Sunday for business, topped off the tanks right
after setting down. When I came back from business on Thursday, found
the right tank down quite a bit. I was going crazy looking for the
leak and checking the drain for seepage, until the line guy pointed out
that he filled the...

Bank Check Aviation by
Ron R
The Los Angeles Times has an article about pilots who fly bank checks
around the country each night. With the modernization of check
processing, these flights will be needed less in the future.
"AirNet's 128 planes, many of them speedy Learjets, are small enough and
nimble enough to pack and...

Are sectional paths correct across "long" distances? by
vincent p. norris
No. Straight lines on Lambert Conformal maps are not great circles.
It's my understanding that the Lambert Conformal is better than any
other flat surface at representing the curved surface of the earth in
such a way that a straight line on the chart comes very close to being
a Great...

Two non-aviation questions by
Ramapriya
1. If the principles of flight are universally applicable, why is it
that birds don't stall or spin? I wonder especially because I'm sure
I've seen some gulls hover in mid-air doing pretty much nothing except
having their wings spread!
2. We know it's possible for an aircraft to fly at angle to...

Collins Pro Line vs Garmin G1000 by
Charles Talleyrand
I notice that the Citation CJ1s have Collins Pro Line and the Citation
Mustangs have Garmin 1000s. Does the Pro Line have any significant
advantages over the Garmin 1000? Which might be easier for the single
pilot to learn?

foldable bike by
Pascal
Hello,
I'm about to buy a bike and am interested in a "foldable" bike.
I do not own a plane, just use a rental ( Cessna 172 SP ).
Has anyone thought about getting one of these to fit on the backseat of
172 ?
The one I found here : http://www.digitalgiftstore.com/th-367-r.html
is about 45 pounds...

Practicing SFLs with a constant speed prop - how? by
Ed
I'm fairly new to GA after a 19 year break flying jets. I routinely
fly a single engine experimental with a constant speed prop mounted on
a Lycoming IO-360.
2 QUESTIONS:
1. What's the proper setup to simulate the way the plane would glide
in case of an engine failure? I'm looking for pitch...

Is a "Go Around" an unfamiliar manoeuvre to a student pilot? by
David Wright[_2_]
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/6294778.stm
Interesting that a "Go Around" is considered here as an "unfamiliar
manoeuvre" - and that the pilot was "put in a situation beyond his
experience" - okay he only had 15 hours of flying time and it was only his
second solo, but I was doing...

Help With Medical Problem Identified During Medical Exam by

I'm taking flight lessons and was hoping to get my private pilot certificate
not too far down the line. Today I went in for my medical and was told by
the examiner I have a couple problems. Although I've been asymptomatic for
some time I'm on a medication that is not allowed by the FAA. When I...
