Flying a 172 with Autopilot? by
VE5JL
Is there any one here flying a 172 using an autopilot?
I think on longer flights (3+ hours) and autopilot would be an advantage,
however there are some in the old school that think it is not necessary.
I'd like some opinions.
thx
Joe

Nasa Icing courses by
Jim Burns
As many of you probably know, recent midwest weather has been a steady
stream of low overcast, misty, and foggy days prohibiting most VFR flight
and making IFR flights a spin of the icing roulette wheel. I thought it may
be a good opportunity for us to review NASA's icing online...

Multiengine Rating by
[email protected]
Hi,
i'm interested in the multiengine rating (land), VFR-add-on to my
PP-ASEL.
Any comments about the best training aircraft for these purpose ?
(PA34 Seneca, Beech Duchess, PA44 Seminole, Diamond DA42, ..)
There are big differences concerning the rating requirements.
Some flight schools offer a...

Iowa City Airport in the News by
John Galban
I read an article in the GA News last night about the Iowa City
airport. Seems the airport struck a deal with Wal-Mart. They sold 22
acres of airport land to Wal-Mart for a Supercenter. The sale
apparently pays off the airport's massive debt and allows airport
revenue to now go towards airport...

Garmin 496 PIREP -- Navigating while Driving by
Jay Honeck
Okay, so it's not quite aviation related, but we DID use the 496's
capability today to navigate by road to Blakesburg -- the annual AAA
(Antique Aircraft Association) fly-in. (Which was fantastic, by the
way. It runs through the weekend, so I urge you to check it out!)
This morning we were...

listening to ATC on United Airlines by
Bucky
I'm not a pilot, just your typical passenger. I don't fly United often,
so I just discovered that they put the ATC on the inflight audio. I was
totally fascinated and want to learn some more. Is there a website that
has some basic ATC protocols? Not some huge reference manual, just the
common...

Citabria with gyros by
Bob Esser
After long consideration, I have decided on the type of plane to
purchase: A Citabria 7ECA. What led me to this decision was the
following desire. I want to be a part time instructor and I think the
perfect niche for me is roving tailwheel and spin trainer for the flight
schools in my area. I...

O2 Concentrator instead of O2 tank by
tom
Does anyone use an oxygen concentrator to supply pilot and passengers
in a light plane flying over 14000 feet? A quick google did not turn
up anything but home units and a recent ruling that they can be used on
commercial airlines, but I did not find anything about their use on
private...

Steering on the taxiway by
Mxsmanic
Is it better to use just the rudder or differential braking to turn on
taxiways? I understand that steering mechanisms vary considerably
from one aircraft to another, but I'm still curious. In this case,
I'm wondering about a Baron 58, the aircraft I fly in my sim (most of
the time).
I note when...

so!
For example, some people didn't post what STATE their suggested museum...

Bad day in Oklahoma by
GeorgeC
I was scheduled to fly today; my CFI said I need some work on landings before
he'd sign me off. I checked ADDS before I left the house, and the TAF said there
should have a 14 knot crosswind component, which would be OK. In Oklahoma if you
can't do crosswind T/O's, you can't fly. When I got the...

Aviation Movies? by
Dave Burton
Here is you chance to suggest movies to show at a fly-in. I'd
appreciate any suggestions for newer movies, available on DVD or video
tape. We've seen all the oldies. I've got to stick to PG films for
the most part since this will be visible to the CAP cadets and anyone
else still up after dark. ...

Switching to ground.... by
David Rind
I landed at BED a couple of days ago, and as I was rolling out
the controllers switched, so I never got the usual instruction
to "turn off at Golf, ground .7". Since Golf was the first
taxiway to turn off on anyway, I made the turn off.
Tower was now so busy (common at BED) that I could not get a...
