Youth Members in your (US) Club by Ulrich Neumann
Hi all, I need your input on an issue that has led to an ongoing, heated debate ever since my son joined our soaring club at age 14. He begun taking lessons and soloed during a youth soaring camp organized by another club this summer. A small but vocal group of members are stricktly against youth-...

Incredible Lifting Experience by Jim Vincent
In this video, the guy is kiteboarding on the water. Normally when jumping, the max is about 50'. He gets caught in a thermal and ends up a few hundred feet up. Quite remarkable that he survived. http://www.kiteschool.net/mary_poppins.wmv Jim Vincent N483SZ

Nimbus 21C instrument panel by Bill Daniels
I'm planning the installation of a new Borgelt B50 to replace an old Pirol vario. The Pirol used three 61mm holes so the 57mm B50 units won't fit nor will the G meter I'd planned to add. Arghhhh! So, new panel time. Anybody got a new or used panel laying around? If not, my choices seem to...

I'll be staying in Chicago from Nov 5th to 8th (including the week-end). Is there any chance of soarable weather or would it be the same as northern Europe ? If yes, could anyone recommend a place where I could take a ride in a two-seater (I have a valid French license but I don't want to spend...

Japan Soaring Club? by Tim Maw
Has anyone been to the Japan Soaring Club at Itakura Gliderport near Tokyo lately? I'm off to Japan for a week's holiday next week and was thinking of going along one day. It'll probably be just for a jolly; a new location for the log book etc. I'm not there for a gliding holiday per se, and...

Lawyers Flying Gliders by Matt Herron
This is a bit wierd, but a friend and I can think of no lawyers who fly gliders. We can think of plenty of doctors and gobs of engineers, but no members of that darker profession. Is it just us, or is there something about soaring that excludes lawyers? Aversion to risk??

Was "Lawyers Flying Gliders" - How About Cops? by Mike Fadden
We have a lawyer in our club and, fortunately for the club, he does some lawyer stuff for free. I have met many very interesting people since I got involved with soaring, most with technical background of some sort but certainly not all by a long shot. What I haven't met are any fellow soaring...

There is a glider...

NOAA soaring forecast web page gone! by Roger Worden
The NOAA web site used to have a "Soaring and winds aloft" page for various locations. We used the one from San Diego, which included forecasts for many sites in Southern California. I know they had similar pages for other parts of the country. They just reorganized their web site and it's gone! I...

New iPAQ 4700 by Paul Remde
Hi, I received my iPAQ 4705 this week. Like the Toshiba e800 the screen is a little larger than most Pocket PCs and it is about the same brightness as most current Pocket PCs. It looks about the same (maybe slightly brighter) as my iPAQ 3970 in sunlight. The high resolution screen is not an...
