Maintenance/Hangar Costs by
aml
I am wondering if somebody out there can give me some real world numbers
on how much their maintenance costs are for a Cessna 340 and 414. I
don't care if it has the RAM conversion or not. A good friend of mine is
starting a charter company and wants to have numbers to put in the
business plan.
I...

WTB:135 Ticket by
AML
I am in the market for a 135 operation. I am finding out that going
through the FAA would take about a year and I don't have the time to
wait that long. If anybody has one for sale or knows someone that is
thinking about selling it, let me know.
Thanks

Is a "yellow-tag" really necessary? by
Andre
Ok, let's say my TSO'd Attitude Indicator (AI) in my Cherokee goes
belly-up, and my friend just happens to have one he removed from his
machine a month ago as part of a complete panel upgrade. We both KNOW
the thing works fine and would solve my problem.
What's the ramifications of just having it...

Cessna 172H by
Andrew
Hi everybody,
I have just bought myself a 31st birthday present, an absolutely immaculate
Cessna 172H. It has original paint and interior and looks as though it just
came out of the factory. Has has a fairly easy life with total time of
4,400 and log books going back to original assembly in...

Updating KLN 94 - Parallels Mac OS X by
Andrew Andersen[_2_]
Hi
Has anyone been successful in updating a Honeywell Bendix-King KLN 94
(or 89/B) database via "direct cable connection" from the computer to
the KLN94's serial port using an Intel Apple Mac running Windows under
Parallels? The Mac doesn't have a serial port so it is necessary to use
a USB...

Mooney M20 K on Grass ? by

Do you think that Grass is ok with a M20K or it's dangerous ?
Well ... it's not dangerous, but it might be expensive :-)
You can operate a Mooney off grass. Lots of people do. However
you really want the smoothest possible grass, which is fussed over
and...

Cessna 172K Hawk XP startup procedure? by

starting the Continental IO-360-K engine
The TCM fuel injected engines are sweet, pleasant, docile
and simple to start, as opposed to the Lycoming fuel injection
which is simple cold but can be a miserable fire-prone bitch
to hot start.
The TCM fuel injection is simple:

Mounting "portable" avionics by
Andrew Gideon
Our club aircraft have GNS-430s and Strikefinders, but I'm looking at
adding some additional capacity. Long term, I suspect that ADS-B plus an
MFD is going to be the way to go. But ADS-B coverage is a little light
right now, so I'm reluctant to have members spending money today for such
limited...

What do you do about maintenance? by
Andrew Gideon
Picture an airport where MX services are limited. Perhaps because there's
no real shop at the airport, but maybe just a couple of independents that
work out of their hanger. Or perhaps there are shops but they're
"imperfect" (ie. unwilling to work on anything that's not scheduled two or
more weeks...

Why is LOP (lean of peak) controversial? by
Andrew Gideon
I'm not asking about LOP itself, but why it's so "hot" snicker a topic.
It would seem to be a simple thing to me: the cylinders run at decent
temperatures LOP or they do not. What else is there?
I know at least one person in person, and others from their postings, that
are getting success...

Should a W&B list gross weight? by
Andrew Gideon
Some work was done on an airplane. The new W&B is of the "removed/added"
sort and computes a new empty weight and moment arm. But the document
doesn't state the gross weight.
The changes were all avionics; no airframe or power plant work was done. So
I'd expect the gross weight to remain...

How get get serial number of GNS-430? by

Wanting to put our club's 430s on the upgrade list, I need to get the serial
numbers. Is there a page with this in the unit itself? I looked the other
day, but didn't spot it.
Thanks...

Evaluating high-time airfames by
Andrew Gideon
My club is purchasing another 172. One of the choices we've found - and
otherwise nice airplane - has racked up 10,000 hours total time. Most of
the other aircraft at which we've looked have had TTs of something less
than half this.
Are there special considerations for an airframe with this much...

DGs and Autopilots by
Andrew Gideon
How "particular" to an AP are DGs?
We're looking to replace a DG in an aircraft that has an Cessna
Navomatic 300A (I think it is called) autopilot. In the not too distant
future, we'll be upgrading the AP (probably to an STEC unit, likely to the
STEC 20 (we already have the STEC 30 Alt...

CO mystery - any ideas? by
Andrew Gideon
Our Cessna R182 is getting CO in the cockpit. We've now had three different
shops look at it multiple times, all to no (complete) effect. They've done
things like resealing the firewall, the gear-wells, the exhaust, and the
like. But still we get CO.
We've swapped CO detectors around between...
