Odd missed approach instructions by Paul Tomblin
The published missed for the RNAV (GPS) RWY 04 at KROC says "Climb to 3000 direct CISON WP and via 098(degree) track to BREIT WP and hold". I'm trying to think why they'd put in that "098 track" thing instead of just saying "direct BRIET WP". The plan view makes it look like after crossing CISON...

LOC(BC) MDA: 287 ft AGL by David Megginson
I've just noticed in the latest CAP (Canadian approach plates) that the MDA for the LOC(BC) 25 approach at Ottawa/CYOW has been lowered from 800 ft (427 AGL) to 660 ft (287 AGL). I can see how it makes operational sense -- it is the approach runway usually named in the ATIS (despite the fact that...

Altimeter discrepancy by Gene Whitt
Y'all, I have been flying in an aircraft where ATC has occasionally mentioned that there is a 3-4 hundred discrepancy betwee our communicated altitudes and that of our blind encoder. We have acknowledged the difference. The altimeters were certified some 300 miles away only three months ago. ATC...

Attitude Indicator by KP
Every time I get in the aircraft and before I start the engine I notice the attitude indicator is displaying a nose down and a left turn. Why is that? Is there something wrong with the instrument and is near failure? KP

why ADF/DME for LCI ILS 8? by Gary Drescher
The LCI ILS 8 approach plate says ADF or DME is required. But all the necessary fixes (including the MAHWP) can be identified by the VORs, ILS, and OM. So why the requirement for ADF or DME? http://www.naco.faa.gov/d-tpp/0407/00785I8.PDF --Gary

IFR Bahamas? by smf
Does anyone know about filing IFR in the Bahamas? I went to the Out Island (Stella Maris) this past weekend. On return I filed a DVFR plan. It took about 40 minutes flying time to get close enough to Nassau to contact Naussau App. Does Mia center cover that far out? thanks Steve

Yesterday, I stopped by a small VFR airport in western NY state and struck up a conversation with a few locals. During the interesting aviation chat I learned that the FAA had been to their airport a year or so ago performing a survey that would hopefully result in a GPS approach. On average, how...
