Fatal Microlight Accident in NZ by JohnO
The president and chief instructor at a New Zealand microlight club were killed in a crash on the weekend. Apparently they took a flight at 3am, in the dark, in a thunderstorm, at a field with no lighting. Speculation is that alcohol was involved, but this seems to border on a suicide pact to...

Epoxy is really crap for homebuilding by Sliker
Lately I've had to use the stuff to work with some pre-made parts that were made from epoxy. Aeropoxy. Stinky! Epoxy is more viscose, so it doesn't wet out the cloth as well. It is more toxic, especially some of the older formulas. And smells horrible. And why did so many homebuilders get stuck...

Death and Desert Travel by [email protected]
That's the title of one of the 280+ articles you'll find in my blog, along with a couple of articles on survival, tracking down abandoned airports here in the desert south-west and even a few hints about semi- spontaneous fly-in's to some of those forgotten or seldom used airfields. I've even...

Tank pressure for Speedaire compressor? by Michael Horowitz
Someone gave me a Speedaire Model 3Z394 airtank. I know nothing about its integrity or working pressure. 1. If you own such a model, could you tell me the max safe tank pressure? 2. How can I determine if the tank (which as some rust on the outside) still has its integrity? - Mike

Canard or Mooney by Gezellig[_2_]
on 5/4/2008, Peter Dohm supposed : not necessarily. you only get the performance figures *after* you've built the design and flown it. aviation is littered with designs that looked promising but werent. Stealth Pilot To make matters worser, I can't build one so I...

panel fastening ideas by [email protected]
I would like to add some lightweight insulation and interior panels to my tube and fabric aircraft. Any good ideas for attaching the panels without having visible fasteners? I'm thinking something like those plastic automotic clips... but not. They always seem to break off in my cars. Even...

Nav Light Graphic by RST Engineering
OK, I've been googling, wikiing, and reading FAR gobbledygook all morning and I still don't have a clear picture of what the nav light requirements (in both azimuth and elevation) are as regards brightness. If anybody has a point to a clear post of the brightness requirements, I'd sure be...

tuned exhaust for a lycoming 0320 by Stuart & Kathryn Fields
I'm just having more fun than should be legal and it probably isn't if I look far enough into the County, State and Federal statues, but I am never-the-less. I have pretty much followed the Cafe numbers for header length and the 4-into-one collector. Keeping in mind friendship to my neighbors, I...

Thanks for the invite to speak ... Jim here. With avgas at $5 a gallon and heading north, and with EAA taking a tack decidedly against the little guy in favor of heavy iron, and after 35 straight years of attendance at Oshkosh, and with all of the academic load I've taken on in the last year...
