USAFA Fleet Grounded Again by
Shawn Curry
I caught the last few seconds of a report from a C. Springs TV station
last night. So stunned to actually see gliders on TV I didn't catch the
full gist of the story. Here's the Gazette's

Discus Battery Straps by
Brian Iten
Our club Discus has a spot for a battery just aft of the rudder pedals
but the straps are MIA. Is it safe to make new straps or use Velcro for
attaching the battery hold down?

Cambridge Model 20 Issues by
B. Iten
I am (I think) a proud owner of a model 20 which is driving me up the
wall. Yesterday, I was flying our clubs Discus B with my logger
attached under the glare shield. On my flight, after I was off of tow,
the recorder recorded what looked and was shown as engine noise. The
engine noise also showed...

Avoiding Vne by
K.P. Termaat
Yesterday evening I talked with a friend about avoiding excessive speed when
recovering from a spin in a modern low drag glider with the somewhat larger
span.
He came up with the idea of pulling the airbrakes when still recovering from
the rotating mode. I am not sure this can be done without...

Hangars at Public Airports (US) by
Jim Kellett
Has any US-based gliding club been involved with a public airport's
switching to a "dutch auction" for its hangars on an annual basis?
Has any US-based gliding club been subjected to a "based aircraft" fee by a
public airport?

JAR 22 STANDARDS by
Gordon Schubert
Could someone explain the logic behind the JAR 22 standards.
I just sold an L33 Blanik. Maximum pilot weight per
the manual was 283 lbs. but according to JAR 22 could
only be 242 lbs. Which is legal? Why have two different
weights? I suppose this could make sense to me if there
was a standard set...

Questions for any iPaq users out there by
Ted Wagner
1. I have an iPaq series 55xx and I can't make out the display outdoors, or
in the cockpit. (Yes, I have the brightness set to max.) Is this typical of
iPaqs? Are the older iPaqs brighter? Do I have an "off" unit?
2. What hardware do I need to connect the iPaq to my LX5000 to use the
Downloader...

Against What Odds? by
Shawn Curry
April Soaring pg 41. Short article entitled "Against The Odds" about a
woman making her first solo flight. Congratulations Bobbi, well done
and welcome to the club!
As for the writer of the piece, is it me, or is he trying to discourage
every other woman out there from taking up soaring? The...

Avoiding VNE by
Phoebus_810
Buy a Phoebus with a tail drag chute. If you get in trouble, just pull
the handle and the maximum speed , even in a vertical dive, will be
about 3/4 of VNE.

Filser interfacing woes by
CV
Hello all,
My old portable PC packed up definitely a few weeks ago and
when I started looking around for a new one I found that
none of them have the old traditional serial port anymore !?
This rather leaves me in the lurch with the Filser GPS-logger
in my glider, since the interface is over a...
