Voltage, EDM-700, trim switch follow-up by
Jay Honeck
When I started Atlas yesterday I watched the voltage on the JPI and
the EI volt meters. It was pegged right at 14, which my A&P says is
nominal. It drops to 13.4 or 13.5 in cruise, which he also says is
fine.
So, the JPI EDM-700 is now enroute back to JP Instruments in
California. The tech I...

There is still no word locating him. Hope for the best.
That brings up the ELT topic. It either did not go off or it is out of
range.
I have a APRS tracker that continuously sends position/velocity info
on the ham frequency and can easily be viewed on a Google map anytime.
Worked very well for me...

Wing Covers Pro/Cons by
TF
Just purchased my first plane and have it tied down. It has a canopy cover
but no wing covers. Walking around the airport I only notice one other
plane with wing covers. I would have thought wing covers would be good
protection. During the wnter the rentals would have them to prevent frost...

Need trip adivce. KEWK to KBGR by
Dico
Hello all,
I'm planning a trip from Newton, KS to Bangor, ME. We'll be flying a
Twin Comanche. Time frame would be in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
I'm looking for advice on airports to stop at, fuel up and get a bite
to eat. Ideally we'd stay away from the big centres and inexpensive
fuel would be a...

UPDATE #3 -- Headset Noise by
Jonathan Goodish
I put a voltmeter on the alternator output and measured between 32-35 AC
volts at moderate load and moderate RPM. Looks like some diodes have
decided to give up.
Does anyone have any info on the Plane-Power alternators? There is a
PMA'd replacement for my aircraft, and I will go that direction...

Prop Indexing by
Mike Granby
Why are fixed-pitch props on PA-28s indexed to the 10-4 position from
the front?
a) To help hand propping?
b) To minimize vibration?
c) To improve performance?
My money is on (a) but others disagree.

Wanting to put our club's 430s on the upgrade list, I need to get the serial

Thanks...

Rubber fuel cells by
Mike Rapoport
I have a Helio Courier with four fuel cells holding 30 gallons each. My
typical flight uses ~35 gallons so I would like to leave the outer (aux)
tanks empty most of the time. I understand that leaving them empty will
reduce their life expectancy. How much should I expect the life expectancy
to...

Jay Honeck-- Your "Airplane On A Pole" problem is solved by
RST Engineering
Jay --
Some time ago there was a thread in this ng about what sort of light
aircraft on a pole ("pig on a stick") would be appropriate for your
establishment. That thread sort of bogged down...
Just for grins, go to http://www.rst-engr.com/weathervane/ and think about
making a 4x or 8x model of...

??Build rolling tool chest? by
Michael Horowitz
You know the rolling mechanics tool chests that provide some work room
on top? you see these in any A&P shop.
I don't need one, so I don't wanna spend much $$$, but if I could
build one for nothing, it would be fun to have.
Anyone built their own rolling tool chest? - Mike

Owner's right to maintenance records? by

N registered aircraft are required to have all work recorded in the
airframe and powerplant logs, what you apparently call maintenance
records... I have no idea why you would think otherwise... My 1957
Apache came with an armload of logbooks going back to day one... In
this country a plane that...

Running a repair shop by
Greg Esres
Anyone here familiar with how to manage a repair shop?
Our flight school has 20 aircraft and a hangar full of mechanics, but
nothing much seems to get fixed. Instead, you'll often find the
mechanics working on lawn mowers, boat motors, and painting minivans.
I'm wondering how more professional...

HOT start 180HP engine by

My 1973 Skyhawk has the 360/180 hp engine carburated.

times. Fuel pump off, turn starter while advancing the throttle.
Today she would not fire and the battery went...
