1 Attachment(s) Autorotation ? R22 for the Experts by Eric D
Here is a good question for the more experienced helicopter pilot or mechanic. A friend of mine that flies a late model Robison R22 Beta II asked this question of a number of individuals and no one seem to have an explanation. This included people at the manufacturer. I believe I know the...

Autorotations by Ol Shy & Bashful
It's getting pretty boring here. So, who has done an actual emergency autorotation and what was the outcome? As previously posted, I've done at least five with various failures and all to successful conclusions. Geeez guys....it's Christmas! Can't we say something or do something to brighten up the...

Awesome chopper! by toadmonkey
I saw an awesome chopper in town today- a Huey. Though called a Huey, I believe it's a Bell job. The famous UH-1 series. Don't have a pic to show it. Sorry. Anyhow, where can I get info on that type of chopper? I'm interested in the series and defferences. Like the UH-1H. What's the...

BA609 Flys Again! by CTR
My friends at Bell emailed me today to tell me that the BA609 has returned to flight test. Today it made four flights totaling about an hour before bad weather rolled in. More should be on the internet tomorrow. This should put them on track for achieving airplane mode this summer. Take...

Baby Belle in the air again by Stuart & Kathryn Fields
Well after a year on the ground, which started out to be just a condition inspection, a 1800 sq ft building expansion got in the way, my bird took flight yesterday. After extensive re-rigging and checking to insure sufficient negative pitch to allow autoroatation, I carefully lifted the bird...

balancing act by Stuart & Kathryn Fields
Here's one for the pros: I was balancing my tail rotor and had it down to 0.27 ips and still had just a touch too much weight where I had added it. So still needing to safety wire a bolt that is located in the center of the tail rotor output shaft, I chose to safety it to a hole 180 degrees from...

Balancing act revisited. by Stuart & Kathryn Fields
In a previous post I had problems balancing my tail rotor on my Baby Belle helicopter and received a lot of feedback on possible causes. I've since got the bugger balanced and discovered a few things about both mechanical vibrations and some characteristics of my ship. In the process I found...

Bell 212 fin by [email protected]
Many years ago, when I was working with Bell 212s, I knew that all FAA certified IFR machines had to have that fin on the roof in front of the mast. I've heard that the fin is no longer required but I couldn't find any info about it. Does anybody know about this? If the fin is no longer required,...

Bell 427 Main Rotor System by Bob M
Is anyone out there familar with the design of the Bell 427 main rotor? Since I first saw it I've been quite a fan of the design with it's composite yoke for coning and flapping relief and it's rather novel and very simple damping elements. Yet today I read that Bell plans to re-rotor the 427...
