PalmNav 'circles displayed as ellipses' problem by Chris Davison
Have just loaded the 2004 airspace files on my Cassiopia, for use in PalmNav 4.4 The airspace display looks 'stretched', i.e. circles around airports to mark the ATZ are displayed as ellipses. Anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it? Thanks Chris

FARs on your PDA by Jim Kellett
Piet Barber is one of the webmasters of Skyline Soaring Club in Virginia. He has established a cool channel on the AvantGo network that, once subscribed to, will automatically download the glider-related portions of 14CFR Parts 61 and 91 directly to your Palm or WinCE PDA. He has indicated his...

blanik L-23 performance polars by [email protected]
Anyone know of a link to performace polars for a Blanik L-23? I have seen the polar curve drawn in the manual, but it is kinda simple and is difficult to pull out figures for making a glide calculator and/or speed to fly profile

seat belts and restraints by Bill Daniels
I know there has been long threads about belts, 4-point, 5-point etc... I still think there is more that needs to be discussed. I am nursing a stiff neck from repeatedly banging my head against the canopy on a particularly violent encounter with wave rotor yesterday. The tow pilot is also nursing...

The New Google Groups Interface by [email protected]
You may have noticed that the new Google Groups interface includes custom links in the right gutter based on the title and content of the thread. I was very amused to note that the thread on gelcoat repairs featured one advert for Gelcoat, and two for ridding the human body of unpleasant...

Gel Coat for Dummies by Ray Lovinggood
Help. I want to repair some self-inflicted wounds on the leading edges of the wings on my LS1-d. The wounds were created when getting the wings out from and/or putting them back into the definintely non-Cobra/Komet trailer. While not a Cobra, it is a 'serpent' type of trailer, but more of a...

ATSM should make SLSA requirements 5.0kg/meter sq by Mark James Boyd
I was thinking about the ATSM and JAR-22 for Special Light Sport Aircraft. Since SLSA are really between Standard and Experimental certificates, applying JAR-22 in its entirety seems overregulating. I noticed FAA US AC 21.17-2A invokes the JAR-22 standard for gliders as 3.0kg/meter squared. This...

SUA maps by [email protected]
Is there a PC program available to convert airspace maps from OpenAir format to Tim Newport-Peace format? Or alternately, is there a program to create Tim Newport-Peace format maps from the DAFIF data for areas outside the US, Canada and Europe (ie a worldwide version of the airspace or eurospace...

Powered gliders = powered aircraft for 91.205 by Mark James Boyd
AC 21.17-2A, in the USA "Powered gliders are considered to be powered aircraft for the purpose of complying with 91.205." Interesting. Hadn't seen this in writing before. -- ------------+ Mark J. Boyd

RIP Mike Valentine by Mal
Sad news. As most will already know, Mike Valentine is no longer with us. Mike passed away by his own hand last Friday night. I can offer no adequate words for this tragic outcome. Those of us who knew Mike will know that, while this outcome cannot be explained, it was the result of the very high...

Standard Cirrus Web Site Move by Jim Hendrix
The Standard Cirrus web site has been moved to a new home. It now lives in a folder at www.oxaero.com. It will take several days for the domain name to catch up. Until then, www.standardcirrus.org will point to the old site, or may not work at all for a day to so. Meanwhile, you can...

Wing Bubbles and re-surfacing by Steve Hill
After my nice flight last month in Mt. Rainier wave to 24k, my wings have turned into a blistered nightmare on the DG-400. I probably have 2,000 small bubbles ranging from .005 to .015" tall...I've been sanding the gelcoat down in an effort to see if I can break through them, but I am nervous as...
