C-182's to avoid? by Alan Browne
I was speaking with a somewhat smug fellow the other day who claimed older C-182's (1968 that I'm looking at) had inefficient wings and that the Continental would not make it to 1500 hours; 1300 if I'm lucky. (The one I'm looking at has 61 SMOH; about 5000 total; new paint, interior, etc.). As...

KFRG ID and Background Check required for all pilots by Mike Isaksen
"Ron Lee" wrote... Boycott the airfield. When fuel sales plummett and FBOs lose money, this nonsense will be retracted. "Marco Leon" wrote: If the FBO's are behind this, then it must be some obscure relationship at the top levels of the NY State government. This is a...

Garmin 396 battery question by Paul kgyy
I bought a 396 at Osh this summer and the battery never shows more than half charge on the meter. However, if I just let it run, it runs to its full time, so apparently the internal meter needs to be reset. Anybody know how to do that? Yep, I did read the manual, couldn't find anything.

Is this a pencil-whipped annual? by Paul kgyy
I'm looking for a good V-tail, 1970-ish vintage. There's a 69 model nearby. Here is the report from the last airframe annual: "Checked all controls and cables. Performed gear retraction test. Repacked wheel bearings and checked brakes. Installed new air filter element. Installed new ELT...

Alarus for training? by Scott[_5_]
What do we think of an Alarus CH2000 as a primary trainer and as a weekend flyer? I've run into a possible opportunity to buy a used CH2000 for possibly well under market value (at auction, so it really depends on where the bidding goes). I also have a couple of guys who might be interested...

Anyone here based in San Diego? We have rental property there which is presently vacant. My wife loves the weather in San Diego and had hinted that she wouldn't mind living in the house. (We presently live in Tacoma, Washington--weather---ugh). Up here, I have a nice hangar, a fairly short...

Owner maintenance screw-ups by Viperdoc
As a follow on to Jay's previous post, has anyone attempted an "easy" or "obvious" repair project, only to do something that really screwed up the job and made it more expensive or time consuming to recover?
